This year we are experiencing a very hot summer in the UK. Heat and UV rays can have a significant impact on all our health, causing short-term illness and discomfort, long-term health problems and diseases, and, where care is not taken, or in at-risk groups, death.

Excessive heat can cause heatstroke. Get immediate medical help if someone has the symptoms of heatstroke. You can see the symptoms and what you can do to help and avoid heatstroke at

When you go on holiday, as long as you are not going to be away for more than three months, you can order extra medication in advance. Make sure you order your repeat prescriptions early, so that you have your medication in plenty of time. You may be asked to provide dates or evidence of your travel before your medication is issued.

When you travel:
• Keep your medication in your hand luggage in case you need it, or in case your suitcase is lost or delayed
• If you are travelling abroad, check before you leave whether your destination country has any restrictions on the medication you are taking
• Bring your prescription details with you and have them ready in case you are asked to show them

The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) aims to empower parents by protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding. Breastfeeding saves the lives of both babies and mothers, and also supports nutrition, development and lifelong health. Breastmilk is a low-cost, locally available nutrition, so it also encourages equality.

This awareness week, everyone is invited to understand and share what is working in countries that are reporting good breastfeeding progress, to help promote a more equal and sustainable start in life for babies worldwide, and a reduction in poverty and better food security for them and their families.

A reminder to patients on how to access our services and request appointments.

Wherever possible please use the online form on our website - https://access.klinik.co.uk/contact/kingswood-health-centre

If you're unable to go online, you can call through to Reception and our team will complete the form on your behalf. If you can go online, please do so that the phone lines are kept free for people who cannot use the form.

All requests go through the form and are dealt with in the same way so that we can manage demand and triage them based on clinical urgency.

Once triaged, you will be contacted by the end of the next working day to confirm what will happen next. This is usually by text or a message through the NHS App. If you don't have a mobile phone we will call you to let you know what will happen next.

Appointments are either for the same day, within 7 days or routine. The current routine wait time is 4-5 weeks due to high demand. Following patient feedback we are including in our acknowledgement texts the current wait times for routine appointments. Once you have received your acknowledgement you don't need to do anything else - all requests are kept open until an appointment is booked, or if we have tried 3 or more times to contact you. If you no longer need your appointment, let us know by ringing Reception and we can close your request.

Patient feedback for the online system is overall very positive but we appreciate some patients prefer to be able to call up and book an appointment straight away. Unfortunately due to demand and the need to triage requests this is no longer possible, and the government has encouraged the use of online systems to allow GP surgeries to prioritise urgent care. If you struggle to use the systems or get online, you can always call us and the callback function means you don't need to wait for long periods in the call queue. If you do submit a request that might need to be seen on the same day, please keep your phone with you as we may call you to offer a same-day appointment.
