To everyone pouring their heart and soul into running a patient group, charity, or advocacy movement: I see you, and I stand with you. 💚

This isn't just a job, it's a calling driven by genuine passion, love, and a deep determination to make things better for our families. We do this work because we care immensely and wouldn't choose to be anywhere else.

But loving what you do doesn't mean it doesn't carry a heavy cost.

In my last article for my Brainz Magazine series, I dive into the hidden emotional impact of leading in the rare disease space. It’s an honest look at how we can stay deeply dedicated to our mission without burning out from the unspoken weight of vicarious grief and constant advocacy.

Advocating for others shouldn't mean sacrificing your own wellbeing. If you are carrying that hidden load today, Mind Over Matter Therapy is here to offer a safe, validating space dedicated entirely to you.

Some exciting news to share! 🎉 I was recently interviewed by the team at Brainz Magazine about a subject that defines not just my professional life, but my personal journey: the emotional reality of caregiving and rare diseases.

We talked about everything from the weight of chronic stress to the exhausting reality of constantly having to fight systemic barriers just to get your child supported.

Most importantly, we talked about how anxiety, burnout, and grief aren't signs of personal failure they are entirely human responses to prolonged pressure.

If you are a parent or carer feeling the weight of that pressure today, please give this a read. At Mind Over Matter Therapy, I create exactly the safe, validating space talked about in this feature. You don’t have to do this alone. 💚

Parenting a child with complex needs often feels like a marathon with no finish line. 🧩

For Mental Health Awareness Week, I’m sharing my new article in Brainz Magazine. It’s an honest look at the grief, the "Dragon Mum" label, and the reality of the carer’s journey.

Remember: Honesty doesn’t diminish your love, it protects your sanity. If the load feels too heavy, Mind Over Matter Therapy is here to help you carry it. 💚

"You look fine." "It can't be that bad."

For families living with a rare disease, these "simple" comments can feel deeply invalidating. While we recently marked Rare Disease Day, the conversation about the psychological toll of these conditions is one we need to keep having every single day.

In Article 6 of my IMPACT series, I’m diving deep into Social Stigma.

Rare disease families are often forced to be constant educators just to be believed. This constant need to justify their reality can lead to withdrawal and "emotional unsafety".

Through Mind over Matter, I want to help families navigate these complex feelings of guilt, shame, and invisibility. Reducing stigma starts with a simple shift: listening without judgement.

I’m incredibly honoured to share that I’ve been included in the Brainz Global Award List, which highlights individuals who deserve recognition for their dedication to helping others through their expertise and ideas.

To be included alongside such influential and inspiring people is truly humbling. As a psychotherapist and Rare Disease Advocate, this recognition means so much and reinforces why I do the work I do.

January is often filled with messages of “new year, new you” but when you’re living with a rare disease or ongoing uncertainty, life doesn’t always reset neatly with the calendar.

Chronic grief doesn’t always come from a single loss. Sometimes it comes from living with ongoing change, uncertainty, or illness.

In my January Brainz Magazine article, “How to Cope with the Emotional Impact of Chronic Grief and Uncertainty,” I explore what chronic grief is, why it can feel so heavy, and how we can begin to support ourselves emotionally when there is no clear end point.

If this speaks to your experience, or the experience of someone you love, you can read the article here:

I hope it offers comfort, understanding, and reassurance that you’re not alone 🤍

I’m pleased to share my latest piece in Brainz Magazine’s December issue: “The Hidden Psychological IMPACT of Navigating the Healthcare System.”

If you have a rare disease in your family, you’ll know that the emotional challenges don’t just come from the condition itself. They come from the system, the endless appointments, the dismissals, the delays, the constant need to fight to be heard. It’s a form of “healthcare fatigue” that so many families experience but rarely talk about.

This article explores:
💛 The trauma of not being believed
💛 The emotional toll of delayed diagnosis
💛 The stress of appointments taking over your life
💛 The burnout that builds by year’s end
💛 What actually helps families cope
💛 And what desperately needs to change in healthcare

If you’re ending this year feeling exhausted or overwhelmed, please know this: you are not failing, the system is.
Your strength is extraordinary, even when you feel worn down.

I hope this article brings comfort, validation, and a little bit of breathing space for anyone who needs it.
