Meet Frank, from unable to walk to back to living his best life!

Frank’s journey shows what individualised canine physiotherapy and rehabilitation can look like after spinal surgery.

After suddenly losing the ability to walk, Frank underwent a hemilaminectomy to relieve spinal compression.

From there, rehab focused on comfort, mobility, strength and rebuilding functional movement, one step at a time.

With regular reviews, his exercises evolved alongside him. Small hindlimb movements became stronger, more controlled steps… then walks, play and plenty of personality!

Recovery takes time, patience and teamwork and sometimes, the patient has other ideas!

You’ve been waiting ages for a vet physio appointment for that on-off, subtle lameness & on the day of assessment.....dog suddenly moves like an athlete with absolutely no concerns whatsoever 😂

Intermittent lameness is changeable, especially when dogs are excited or running on adrenaline.

But even when they seem “fine”, a trained eye can usually see asymmetry & compensations in movement, posture and muscle. If it's there, we'll usually find something!

Some parts of veterinary physiotherapy are completely normal to us… but would sound absolutely unhinged anywhere else.

Every patient keeps us guessing, every day is different, and there’s never a dull moment. From big personalities to specific toy preferences, it’s all part of the job we love most.

We’ll always appreciate where our physiotherapy journey started, but working with small animals is truly the best kind of chaos.

Peak performance starts with optimal movement.

It was great to spend time with Capable Canines members over the last few weeks reviewing movement, assessing performance, and helping handlers better understand how their dogs are moving.

Physiotherapy isn’t just for post-op or injured dogs. Performance reviews can help identify restrictions, compensation patterns and early signs of overload before they become bigger problems.
