ā€œBut there’s no grassā€¦ā€ šŸ‘€

This is one of the biggest myths I hear at the moment.

Many owners look at a brown, dry paddock and assume their horse can’t possibly be putting on weight…

🐓 Yet I’m seeing plenty of horses that are getting noticeably rounder.

Why?

🌾 Dry doesn’t mean sugar-free.

When grass is stressed by drought, it can still contain high levels of sugars. Horses often graze much closer to the ground too, where the most nutritious parts of the plant remain.

And don’t forget…

šŸŒ§ļø When the rain finally arrives, grass growth can explode. That fresh flush is often even richer, meaning horses can gain weight very quickly if we’re not prepared.

Extra weight doesn’t just increase the risk of laminitis—it can also affect comfort, movement, saddle fit and performance.

Now is a great time to:
āœ”ļø Check your horse’s body condition regularly.
āœ”ļø Feel for changes rather than relying on what you see.
āœ”ļø Adjust grazing and forage if needed.
āœ”ļø Keep an eye on how your saddle is fitting—small changes in shape can make a big difference.

Just because the fields are brown doesn’t mean the waistlines are shrinking!

Keep your horse cool by managing their turnout schedule, providing ample shade and fresh water, and using cold-water rinses after exercise.
Reverse turnout times (out at night, stabled during the day), offer a plain salt block, and scrape off warmed water immediately after hosing to prevent insulation.

Turnout & Shelter Adjustments Optimise Schedules:
Switch up your routine so horses are turned out during cooler nighttime hours and brought into a well-ventilated barn during the heat of the day. Provide Shade: Ensure all paddocks have reliable shade from trees or field shelters. If natural shade is lacking, consider rigging temporary UV-blocking shade cloth or tarps.

Sun Protection:
Apply equine-safe, SPF 50 sunscreen to pink noses and light-colored patches and use fly masks with UV protection to shield their faces from both sun and biting insects.

Hydration & Nutrition Unlimited Clean Water: Horses can drink up to 55 to 70 liters (or more) of water per day in hot weather. Keep troughs and buckets topped up with fresh, clean water in shaded areas.

Salt & Electrolytes:
Make sure your horse has free access to a salt block, and consider adding equine-formulated electrolytes to their feed or sloppy mashes if they are sweating heavily. Always ensure a bucket of plain water is available alongside electrolyte-laced water.

Cooling the Horse Down Cold Hosing:
Spray your horse generously with cold or iced water, focusing on large muscle groups (neck, chest, shoulders, and hindquarters). Scrape and Repeat: Do not let warm water sit on the horse’s coat, as it acts like insulation and slows heat loss. Scrape the water off immediately and reapply fresh, cold water. Use Fans: Combine cold water with air circulation. Set up safe, barn-approved pedestal fans to dramatically increase heat loss through evaporation.

Riding & TravelTime Wisely:
Avoid the hottest parts of the day. Schedule rides or strenuous training for the early morning or late evening when temperatures are lower.

Amazing results
After doing some research into the % of ingredients in Equine Flex vs other brands, I decided to take the plunge and switch. It is cheaper than other brands but with higher % active ingredients the results I am seeing are fantastic! I won’t be switching to anything else and hope to continue seeing my horse march around on our hacks!!

Feed EquineFlex the same way every day for consistent joint support: at the same time, with a small mix of chaff or soaked feed, never skipped. For young horses I split the dose across morning and evening to support development; for competition horses I keep dose timing tight around intense workdays to aid recovery. Measure precisely, stick to the label, and avoid sudden changes to feed or routine. Track progress over 6–8 weeks. Want a step-by-step feeding checklist and timing guide? We see early joint stiffness after rest and we act fast. Look for short, stiff steps at walk, reluctance to box walk or warm up, and subtle changes in stride length. These signs point to cartilage wear and reduced synovial support — both key to smooth recovery and consistent performance.
We formulate EquineFlex in the UK with high‑grade actives, no fillers and clean‑sport safety so you can support cartilage repair and synovial fluid quality with confidence. Targeted supplementation helps reduce inflammation, preserve joint surfaces and shorten downtime for working horses. Spot the signs early. Start support early. Link in bio.
