Hi, I’m Lindsay.

Most people think I spend my days giving sports massage.

Yes…I do.

But what really interests me is WHY people become injured in the first place.

Stress.
Poor sleep.
Movement.
Strength.
Recovery.
Mindset.

That’s why this year I’ve added Wellbeing & Resilience Practitioner training, I’m completing Mental Health First Aid training and I’m now studying pelvic floor health too.

Because looking after people isn’t just about muscles.

It’s about the whole person.

Expectation vs Reality in sports therapy 😅

People think you walk into a calm spa…
soft music… candles… pure zen vibes…

Reality:
“Why are your hips doing THAT?!” 😭
me trying not to laugh while also undoing 10 years of desk posture

Somewhere between laughter, mild suffering, and “I swear that shouldn’t be that tight” — we actually get results.

And yes… I will absolutely make you laugh while fixing it.

If you want gentle torture with results, I’m your person 😉

🌧️ Friday Round Up at LR Sports Therapy 🌧️

It’s been cold.
It’s been grey.
It’s been “why did I leave the house without gloves?” weather. 🥶

But inside the clinic?

🔥 Busy.
🔥 Warm.
🔥 Full of tight calves, grumpy shoulders and “I should have stretched” confessions.

This week I’ve:

👉 Loosened hamstrings that haven’t seen daylight since 2019
👉 Negotiated with stubborn tension that did NOT want to move
👉 Heard “it’s not that bad actually” (while someone is gripping the couch for dear life 😅)
👉 Been told “I’ll definitely stretch this time” at least 47 times (true story 😂)

Despite the weather trying to freeze us solid, you’ve all been showing up, putting the work in and taking care of your bodies 👏

Reminder:
Cold weather + less movement = tighter muscles.
Tighter muscles = you booking in saying “it just suddenly went.”

Nothing sudden about it… I see you 👀😂

If you’re feeling creaky, stiff or like the Tin Man before oil, you know where I am.

Stay warm, keep moving… and maybe stretch this weekend? (Just a thought 😉)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Why Do I Get Cramp?
(And why stretching isn’t always the answer…)

If you regularly get cramp in your calves, hamstrings or feet, you’ve probably been told:

👉 “You’re dehydrated.”
👉 “You need more magnesium.”
👉 “Just stretch it out.”

Sometimes that helps.
But very often… that’s not the real reason.

What’s Actually Happening?
Cramp is your nervous system overreacting.

It’s an involuntary muscle contraction — your muscle switches “on” and struggles to switch back “off”.

And this usually happens because of:

1️⃣ Fatigue
Tired muscles are more irritable.
If you’ve increased training, walked more than usual, or stood all day — your nervous system becomes more sensitive.

2️⃣ Poor load management
Sudden spikes in activity = higher cramp risk.
Your body likes gradual progression, not “weekend warrior” mode.

3️⃣ Reduced strength or conditioning
Weak muscles fatigue faster.
Fatigue increases the likelihood of cramping.

4️⃣ Electrolytes & hydration
Yes — this can be a factor.
But it’s rarely the only cause in otherwise healthy people.

The Corrective Approach…..

Instead of just stretching when cramp strikes, try this:

✔️ Build strength in the affected muscle
✔️ Improve overall conditioning
✔️ Increase load gradually
✔️ Stay hydrated
✔️ Prioritise recovery

For calf cramp specifically:
• Slow controlled calf raises
• Gradual walking/running progressions
• Strength through full range (not just stretching)

Important:

If you are getting frequent night cramps, cramp with very little activity, or cramp alongside other symptoms — it’s worth speaking to a healthcare professional to rule out underlying causes.

Cramp isn’t random.
It’s usually a sign your body is asking for better load management, strength, or recovery.

Treat the cause — not just the symptom 💚
