Another big milestone for The Nest… 🤎🌿

We recently welcomed an Environmental Health Officer into The Kookaburra’s Nest for our food hygiene inspection, and we’re incredibly proud to have been awarded the highest possible rating…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars

With lots of little mouths to feed each day, food safety, cleanliness and exceptional kitchen standards are incredibly important to us.

From preparing fresh, nutritious meals and snacks, to carefully managing allergens, food storage, cleaning procedures and all of the less visible work that happens behind the scenes, so much care goes into making sure our Kookaburras are fed safely and well. 🍓🥦

And, of course, an enormous amount of recognition must go to our resident chef, Nic 👨‍🍳🤎, who helps ensure our children enjoy a varied menu of delicious, home-cooked food every day.

We put a huge amount of thought and care into every detail at The Kookaburra’s Nest, so having those standards recognised with a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating is something we’re very proud of.

Beautiful food, thoughtfully prepared, with the highest standards behind every plate. 🤎

🤍 A moment we'll never forget... 🤍

We are incredibly proud to finally share some of the wonderful feedback from our recent Ofsted inspection.

Receiving a Strong judgement across every area was a huge achievement for our team, but what means the most to us are the words used to describe our children, our relationships with families, and the environment we've worked so hard to create.

Reading phrases such as "Children flourish...", "Inclusion is a significant strength of the setting", "Parents describe the setting as 'truly invaluable'" and "Children behave impeccably" reminds us exactly why we do what we do.

Every cuddle, every adventure, every messy play activity, every SEND meeting, every conversation with a parent, every late-night planning session and every member of our incredible team has helped shape The Kookaburra's Nest into the place it is today.

To our amazing families, thank you for trusting us with your most precious people. To our wonderful team, thank you for your passion, kindness and unwavering dedication. And to our incredible children... you are the reason this report reads the way it does. ❤️

This isn't the finish line. It's a reminder to keep learning, keep growing and continue striving to give every child the very best start in life.
Thank you for being part of our journey. 🤍

❤️ Meet the Team ❤️

Every setting has a team.

We have a family.

Each of us brings something completely different, but together we create the warmth, adventure and sense of belonging that makes The Kookaburra's Nest so special.

💛 Casey-Lee, The Heart Behind The Nest

The paperwork has to be done, the emails have to be answered and all the behind-the-scenes jobs somehow have to fit into the day... but you'll usually find Casey exactly where she wants to be, alongside the children.

She's the first to roar like a dinosaur, start an impromptu dance-off, splash in muddy puddles or stop everything to marvel at a tiny ladybird. She believes that every childhood should be filled with laughter, curiosity, awe and wonder, where every day holds the opportunity for a new adventure.

Passionate about creating beautiful environments and meaningful experiences, her vision has always been simple, to build a place where every child feels deeply loved, endlessly curious and completely at home, while experiencing the magic of childhood.

👨‍🍳 Nic, The Creative Mind

Whether he's preparing delicious home-cooked meals or building the next incredible resource, Nic is rarely still for long. From our wooden horse and pirate ship slide to the mud kitchen, busy boards, playhouse and countless other creations, he's always dreaming up exciting new ideas for the children to explore. A fantastic role model with endless patience, Nic loves getting children involved in building, creating and problem-solving, showing them that with a little imagination, anything is possible.

🌸 Zuzana, The Gentle Soul

Every setting needs someone whose calm presence makes everything feel just a little softer, and that's Zuzana. She has a remarkable gift with our youngest children, helping babies settle quickly in her arms with her gentle, nurturing nature while carefully encouraging their growing independence. She has an incredible eye for every little detail, ensuring our environment remains beautifully organised, calm and welcoming each day.

🌿 Nika, The Guiding Light

Nika has a wonderful connection with all of our children but especially our two to four year olds. Thoughtful and intuitive, she carefully plans experiences around each child's next steps, gently guiding them as they grow in confidence and independence. Her warm cuddles, endless encouragement and genuine kindness make her someone children naturally gravitate towards, always knowing she's there to help them shine.

🌼 Emily, The Ray of Sunshine

Emily brings energy, creativity and laughter wherever she goes. Loved by everyone in the setting, she's happiest in the mud kitchen, getting wonderfully messy alongside the children. Always arriving with fresh ideas and endless enthusiasm, Emily's caring nature, creativity and joyful spirit make every day brighter.

✨️Kayleigh, The Rising Star

Having volunteered with us over the past couple of years, Kayleigh has already become a much-loved part of The Kookaburra's Nest family. Fresh from finishing school and beginning her childcare training this September, she brings a genuine passion for early education, a wonderfully gentle nature, and a kind, caring approach that children naturally warm to. We're so excited to watch her grow into the amazing practitioner we know she's going to be. ❤️

Together, we're more than a team.

We're a family, united by a shared passion for giving children the very best start in life. It is a privilege to be part of their journey and an honour to become part of yours. 🤍

✨ It's the little things... ✨

When families first walk through our door, they often notice the beautiful spaces, the wooden toys and the carefully prepared activities.

But for us, it has never been about creating a picture-perfect setting.

Every basket has a purpose. Every resource has been thoughtfully chosen. Every invitation to play has been carefully prepared with curious little minds in mind.

The cosy corners become places where children build friendships over their favourite stories. The art materials become a way to express big ideas and even bigger imaginations. The loose parts become castles, kitchens, spaceships or whatever a child's creativity decides that day.

We believe that children deserve an environment that tells them, "This space was created just for you."

Because it's often the smallest details that spark the biggest discoveries.

Welcome to the little details that make The Kookaburra's Nest feel like home. 🤍

✨ Welcome to The Kookaburra's Nest ✨

While many of our posts take you along on our adventures through forests, beaches and muddy puddles, today we'd love to invite you inside the heart of our little nest.

This is where imaginations come to life, where tiny hands create wonderful masterpieces, where stories are shared, friendships begin and confidence quietly blossoms each day.

Every space has been thoughtfully designed with one purpose in mind, to create a calm, inspiring environment where children feel safe, loved and excited to explore. From cosy corners for quiet moments to open-ended resources that spark curiosity, every detail encourages children to learn through play, discover at their own rhythm and simply enjoy being little.

Our setting may look beautiful, but what makes it truly special is the laughter that fills these rooms, the relationships we build with every family and the memories made within these walls.

Welcome to The Kookaburra's Nest, our home from home. We can't wait to share more of the little moments that make every day so special. 🤍

💙 More Than Just a Swimming Pool... A Skill for Life. 💙

There are some opportunities in childhood that have the power to change a life forever.

Swimming is one of them.

We feel incredibly fortunate to be able to offer our children something so special right here at The Kookaburra's Nest. Having access to our own heated pool means swimming becomes a natural part of childhood, building confidence, resilience and independence while teaching one of the most important life skills they will ever learn.

Our sessions are led by the wonderful Nicole, an experienced Swim England qualified instructor who has spent many years teaching babies, children and adults. Her passion for helping little ones develop confidence in the water shines through in every lesson, creating fun, nurturing sessions where children can learn at their own pace while developing essential water safety skills.

In the early years, children are naturally fearless, curious and eager to learn. Introducing swimming at this age not only supports their physical development, coordination and strength, but also encourages perseverance, listening skills and self-belief.

Watching a child who once clung tightly to an adult proudly float, kick or put their face in the water for the very first time is truly magical. Those tiny moments of courage become lifelong memories... and lifelong skills.

We couldn't be prouder to give our children this incredible opportunity, because every child deserves the chance to feel safe, confident and capable in the water.

💙 One splash at a time, we're helping build confident little swimmers 🏊‍♀️

Slow & Steady Discoveries 🐌

Gathered closely around the vivarium, little eyes watched carefully as Little, Large, Olaf and Albi explored their world. 🐌✨

Four South African giant land snails — two deep brown, two beautifully albino — each with their own quiet personality.

In the second moment, one perched confidently on a cuttlefish bone, tiny tentacles stretching curiously into the air. Another child hovered nearby — unsure… but fascinated.

And that’s the beauty of it.

At The Kookaburra’s Nest, learning isn’t about forcing confidence. It’s about nurturing curiosity at each child’s own pace.

Caring for our snails means the children:
🌿 Feed them fresh vegetables
🌿 Check the temperature of their tank
🌿 Refresh bedding and redesign their habitat
🌿 Observe gently and respectfully

Through caring for living creatures, they learn responsibility, empathy and patience — all at snail pace.

Some will hold them straight away.
Some will watch first.
Both are learning. 💛

Our little family just grew by four.

Deeply Engaged 😌💭

Stood quietly, completely absorbed in her own idea, this little creator explored playdough and loose parts with total focus.

Cutters, rings, a yarn cone with tiny holes — carefully choosing, pressing, posting, testing.
Over and over again.

We didn’t interrupt.
We didn’t extend.
We didn’t suggest a “better” way.

Because sometimes the richest learning happens when we step back.

In deep concentration like this, children develop:
🌀 Problem-solving skills
🌀 Hand–eye coordination and fine motor control
🌀 The confidence to follow their own thinking

Not every moment needs adult direction. Some moments need space.

And in that space, imagination does its best work. 💛

Where Wild Hearts Wander🧡

Puddle suit on. Wellies steady.
Knee-deep at the edge of the lake, watching two swans glide past without a care in the world. 🦢🦢

The sky was putting on its own show — sun and clouds creating the most beautiful light across the water — but the real magic was in the stillness.

Waiting. Watching. Noticing.

And yes… the socks might get wet.
But who cares?

Because at The Kookaburra’s Nest, we choose experience over perfection.

We choose curiosity over comfort.

Through moments like this, children build:
🌿 Confidence in new environments
🌿 Respect for wildlife
🌿 The ability to pause and truly observe

Yes the socks are wet, but moments like this are worth it 💛

Shared Stories, Growing Minds🧠

Tucked closely together in the reading nook, two little friends became lost in a story of their own. 📖✨

One small finger pointed excitedly at a bright red balloon on the page — eager to share the discovery.
“Look!”

In that simple gesture, so much was happening.
Language building.
Connection forming.
Confidence growing.

Through shared reading, children learn to:
🎈 Communicate their thoughts and ideas
🎈 Listen and respond to others
🎈 Find joy in stories together

Because sometimes the most powerful learning doesn’t happen when an adult leads…
It happens when children share the magic with each other.

Stories are better when they’re told side by side. 💛
