Standing over 140kg deadlift on my comeback gym session, I was reflecting on a busy 18 months. 18 months ago I had my first back injury accompanied with sciatica. Complete foot numbness, sciatic pain down my leg, and a back that reminded me daily why six months of nappy changes and lifting a growing human will humble you fast.
The comeback wasn’t linear. Lots going on along the way. Starting a business. Building a research career. Proving myself alongside surgeons. Finishing my Masters. Getting published in ACL rehab. Meanwhile, the gym went from twice weekly to once a month…sometimes NOTHING!
But here’s what I learned: consistency doesn’t mean perfect. It means showing up when you can. One session counts. Two counts more. And the days when life is chaos? That’s when you find out what actually matters.
I’m still resilient physically and I know how to stay!
