The heatwaves are over, and autumn is knocking on the door. 🍂

There's something lovely about this in-between season. The countryside begins to change colour, the mornings feel fresher, and every walk seems to bring something new to notice.

When a day off... isn't a day off.

It starts gradually.
A few appointments here.
A prescription there.
Popping in to help with the shopping.
Making sure everything's okay.

Then suddenly...

Sunday becomes admin day.
Tuesday is spent chasing appointments.
And then there's the 3am wake-up.
Staring at the ceiling.
Mentally running through tomorrow.
Have I called the GP?
What time was that appointment again?
Did I remember to order the prescription?
Can I get there and back before work?

In care, the best days are often the most ordinary.

No emergencies.
No unexpected surprises.

Contingency plans.

Mum seems alright.
Dad says he's fine.
But something's changed...

Maybe they're not getting out as much.
Maybe the house feels harder for them to keep on top of.
Maybe you're finding yourself checking in more often because you're worrying when they're on their own.

The signs aren't always obvious.

Schools holidays have arrived... ☀️

For most families, that means six weeks of holiday mode.

For care services, it's a little different.

Morning visits still need covering. Evening calls still need covering. Weekends still need covering.

And many of the people providing that care are also parents, grandparents or unpaid carers themselves.

Summer can bring a bit of extra juggling for everyone.

Ever get home from a day out and feel like all your energy's been spent on everything except the day itself?

The thought of it, the planning, getting ready.
Making sure everything's sorted before you leave.
The things waiting for you when you get back.

Sometimes, the little everyday things can take up more energy than the moments you're actually looking forward to.

STRIKE! 🎳

The scoreboard has spoken.
One bowling superstar absolutely wiped the floor with the competition this week, leaving everyone else wondering whether there'd been some secret practice sessions beforehand. 😆

There were strikes, near misses, plenty of laughs, and more score checking than we'd like to admit.
A rematch is definitely on the cards.

Next time, though, the reigning champion might have to give everyone else a head start. 👀🏆
