Taking a little time to recharge

Over the next two weeks I'll be taking a short break from my private practice to rest and recharge.

If you get in touch during this time, your message is important to me and I'll respond as soon as I'm back.

As counsellors, we often talk about self-care as more than bubble baths or ticking another box on the to-do list. Sometimes it's about giving ourselves permission to pause.

Wishing you a gentle couple of weeks, whatever they may hold.

Life has a way of coming in like the tide.

Worries, responsibilities, caring for other people, menopause, little by little the water rises.

Before we know it, we're standing in water that's much deeper than we ever expected.

Counselling can't stop menopause or life's challenges, but it can offer a space to make sense of what you're experiencing. A place to process difficult emotions, feel more grounded and less overwhelmed, and explore what you need during a time of significant change.

Sometimes self-care is simply noticing the tide and giving yourself permission to step back onto dry land for a while.

Sometimes having the space to pause, breathe, and be truly heard can make all the difference.

If you're ready to take that first step, I'd be very happy to hear from you.

Counselling is about more than coping

People come to counselling for many different reasons. Some are living with anxiety or navigating menopause. Others are grieving the loss of someone they love, adjusting to life changes, struggling with low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, stress, or simply feeling that something isn't quite right.

Sometimes there isn't a single event to point to. Instead, there's a quiet sense of feeling stuck, disconnected, or unlike yourself.

Counselling offers more than a place to talk. It is an opportunity to understand yourself more deeply – your thoughts, emotions, patterns, relationships and life experiences. Together we can explore how your past may be influencing your present, develop greater self-compassion, and discover new ways of relating to yourself and to the people around you.

For some, therapy is about easing emotional pain. For others, it is about personal growth, finding clarity, building confidence, or creating a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling. Whatever brings you to counselling, my hope is that you leave with a greater understanding of yourself and the confidence to move forward in a way that feels right for you.

As Carl Rogers wrote:

"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."

As Father's Day approaches, it's worth remembering that it can bring a whole mix of emotions.

For some, it's a day of gratitude and celebration. For others, it may be a reminder of a father who has died, a relationship that was painful or absent, the loss of a child, or hopes that were never realised.

Days like these can stir up grief, sadness, anger, relief, love, or a confusing blend of many feelings at once. There is no "right" way to experience them.

If this weekend feels difficult for you, be gentle with yourself. You don't have to force yourself to feel something that isn't there, and you don't have to carry complicated emotions alone.

Whatever Father's Day means to you, I hope you're able to find a moment of kindness for yourself.

Many women expect menopause to announce itself with hot flushes or changes to their periods. Instead, it can arrive disguised as anxiety.

Suddenly you're worrying more than usual. Feeling overwhelmed by things you used to cope with. More irritable, more emotional, less like yourself. The joy seems harder to find.

At the same time, life is often asking a lot of us. Ageing parents may need support. Children may be leaving home. Relationships change. Careers evolve. Losses accumulate.

It can be difficult to know what belongs to menopause, what belongs to life, and what belongs to years of carrying too much for too long.

Counselling can offer a space to make sense of what you're experiencing. A place to process difficult emotions, feel more grounded and less overwhelmed, and explore what you need during a time of significant change.

Sometimes having space to pause and be heard can make all the difference. I offer a professional and confidential space for us to talk. I see clients face-to-face in Buxton and also offer online sessions for those who prefer the flexibility of therapy at home.

£50 per hour (the same rate applies for both in-person and online).

If you are ready to move forward, I offer a free, 15-minute introductory call to see if we are a good fit. Please feel free to send me a direct message here or call me on 07949265430
