Not featured:

➑️ drinks too much tea and stays up too late
➑️ ex- double bass player
➑️ owner of a huge stupid dog
➑️ embarrasses her children by singing loudly in the car
➑️ lifts heavy weights to channel her rage about the state of mental health and maternity services

I've been umm-ing and ahh-ing about sharing this since Birth Trauma Awareness week, but have now decided it's time!

I didn't realise I'd had a traumatic birth until quite a long time afterwards, and there are so many things I would do differently if I could.

My heart aches for new mum Emily, and although I didn't have an immediate realisation that I wanted to get into birth work, my experience definitely influences how and why I support mothers.

Let me know if any of my story is something you experienced too πŸ’œ

I know a lot of you will be following what's happening in the Lindsay Clancy trial right now.
These are the thoughts I wanted to share.
I feel heartbroken for her and her family.

Just sharing a few thoughts for Birth Trauma Awareness Week 2026.

Birth trauma is not always what you might think, and birth doesn't have to involve a load of interventions to make it a traumatic experience.

If it's something that's concerning you, my unique combination of mental health nursing and doula skills could be just what you need.
