Let’s keep our clinic community healthy this cold and flu season 💛

To help protect our clients, families, clinicians and staff, we kindly ask families to consider rescheduling or changing to an alternative appointment option if your child is unwell.

If your child has fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, a persistent cough, sore throat, flu-like symptoms, contagious illness, or is generally lethargic, please contact reception or your clinician before attending in person.

Where possible, we may still be able to support you through telehealth, parent consultation, home practice planning, resource development or liaison with your child’s support team.

Thank you for helping us keep ATUNE Kids safe and well.

Come and say hello to ATUNE Kids at the You’re Kidding Me Expo this week!

We’ll be at Charlestown Square on Wednesday 3rd and Friday 5th June, from 9am–1pm in Centre Court.

Our friendly Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapists and our Practice Manager will be there to chat with families, answer questions, and share information about how we support children with communication, development, learning, play, sensory needs, emotional regulation, fine motor skills, feeding, school readiness and more.

We’re also excited to let families know that ATUNE Kids now offers Psychology services, supporting children and families with emotional wellbeing, behaviour, anxiety, confidence, parent support and practical strategies.

The expo is a great opportunity to connect with local child and family services, enjoy children’s activities, and discover supports available across Lake Macquarie and the Hunter.

Pop by and look for the ATUNE Kids team — we’d love to meet you! 💛💚💙💜

Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA) are in demand right now.

But do you need one?

An FCA is a comprehensive assessment and report that involves home or school-based assessment, liaison with key stakeholders, and a detailed report, typically requiring between 10 - 15 hours to complete all components.

Due to the resource-intensive process and high cost involved, we often seek clarification from the person requesting to confirm that this level of assessment is necessary.

We are seeing an increasing number of requests FCA's for:

Children applying for NDIS funding who need supporting evidence
Younger children transitioning fromNDIS Early Intervention funding
Teenagers transitioning into adulthood

If you DO need an FCA, our Occupational Therapists at ATUNE Kids can complete this assessment for you!

Understanding Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity means that human brains naturally work in different ways. 🧠✨

Children may communicate, learn, move, focus, play and regulate emotions in ways that look different from others — and those differences are part of the natural diversity of human minds.

When communities understand neurodiversity, children feel safer, more accepted and more able to be themselves.

At ATUNE Kids, our Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists support not only children and families, but also the broader community to better understand and support neurodivergent children.

This can look like:
• working with educators to support different communication styles in the classroom
• helping teachers understand sensory needs and regulation strategies
• supporting schools to adapt environments so children can participate more comfortably
• sharing strategies that help children communicate their needs and preferences
• helping adults recognise and support different learning styles
• educating families and communities about neuro-affirming approaches to development

Through community education and collaboration, we help create environments where children are understood, supported and included.

Because when people understand neurodiversity, children are more likely to feel accepted — and acceptance helps children thrive. ♾️

Inclusive classrooms recognise that children learn, communicate and regulate in different ways.

When educators understand neurodiversity, students feel safer, more confident and more ready to learn.

At ATUNE Kids, our Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists support children not only in clinic, but also within their school environments.

By working alongside teachers and support staff, we help create strategies that support communication, participation, sensory needs and learning in ways that respect each child’s unique brain.

This collaborative approach helps educators better understand neurodivergent students and supports classrooms where every child can participate, connect and feel they belong.

We work alongside families and schools to build environments where every brain belongs. ♾️

You don’t need to change your brain. ♾️

Neurodivergent children experience the world in many different ways. Differences in communication, attention, sensory processing, movement, learning and social connection are all part of the natural diversity of human brains. 🌈

At ATUNE Kids, we take a neuro-affirming approach. This means we don’t try to change who children are or how their brains work. Instead, we support children to understand themselves, build on their strengths and develop skills that help them participate in the environments that matter most to them.

Our Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists work closely with children, families and educators to create practical, supportive strategies that make everyday environments more accessible.

This might include:
• supporting sensory regulation and body awareness
• developing communication in ways that feel natural and meaningful for the child
• helping children understand and advocate for their needs
• adapting environments and routines so children can participate more comfortably
• supporting social connection and confidence
• building everyday skills for school, play and home life

We work alongside families to help children grow in ways that respect their identity, strengths and unique ways of experiencing the world.

Because children don’t need to change their brains — they need environments that understand and support them. 🌈

Celebrate Neurodiversity Week March 16-22, 2026

Neurodivergent children bring incredible strengths to the world. 🌈

Creativity, deep focus, honesty, unique perspectives and powerful problem-solving are just some of the many strengths we see every day.

At ATUNE Kids, we celebrate children for who they are and support them to grow in ways that respect their neurodivergent identity.

Every brain works differently — and that diversity makes our world better.
