As I share today's photos from Sblot a Sbri at Ysgol Clydau, I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge what an incredibly emotional day it was.
Today was my first visit to the school, and although I had never been there before, I left with a heavy heart.
From the moment I walked through the doors, it was clear that Ysgol Clydau is so much more than bricks and mortar. It's a place where children have grown in confidence, where friendships have been made, where teachers and staff have poured their hearts into creating a safe, nurturing environment, and where countless memories have been made.
Knowing that the school closes its doors for the final time at the end of this week made every laugh echo a little louder. Every smile felt that little bit more precious. Watching the children enjoying themselves today, I couldn't help but think that these are some of the very last memories they will make together in the place they've called school.
As I drove through Tegryn afterwards, I was struck by the strength of the community. Villages like this are built around places that bring people together, and schools are so often at the very heart of that. When a rural school closes, it isn't just a building that is lost—it feels as though a little piece of the community disappears with it.
Whatever people's views are on the reasons behind the closure, today reminded me that the real story is about the people. The dedicated staff who have given so much, the children whose world is changing, the parents, grandparents and families, and a community saying goodbye to something that has been part of its identity for generations.
I feel incredibly grateful that Sblot a Sbri was invited to be part of one of the children's final experiences at Ysgol Clydau. It was a privilege I won't forget.
To all of the pupils, staff, parents and the wider community—thank you for such a warm welcome. I sincerely wish you all the very best for whatever comes next. ❤️
