Generally the recommendation is that we should all be trying to eat more plants, because they provide essential nutrients, fibre, and antioxidants that support good health and lower the risk of disease.

However, plant based foods are not automatically better. Many are highly processed and contain added sugar, excess sodium, or unhealthy fats, and poorly planned diets can lack key nutrients like vitamin B12, iron or complete proteins.

So while eating more plants may be beneficial, the overall quality and balance of a diet is what is most important. 🌱

This was one of the dishes I served at the HER Cumbria retreat last weekend. The sweet potato bake was served as part of a gluten free menu, alongside some delicious salads and and italian chicken (recipes will follow)

Sweet potato’s are rich in fibre which supports gut health, they have a lower glycemic index which can help support blood sugar balance, and they are loaded with antioxidants and packed with nutrients including vitamin A, C, B6 and potassium.
