Drama at the Wingbeat factory today! Being the only turf-roofed robotic bird factory in the whole World, we are all about flight. Sparrows and blue t**s nest in cavities in the stone walls left specially for them. Wagtails nest in the turf. And we have five nests of bees in three of the turf roofs. With Matt inside making models for New Zealand, and Bryan out in the field behind test flying models, with this warm weather the bees started swarming. We had put out a couple of swarm boxes, which they ignored, so there was nothing for it but to catch them, find any queens and put them into new hives. Sandor and Helen put on bee suits and got one swarm sorted. Another swarm looks like it will be ready tomorrow. The bees got a bit grumpy and a couple were too quick for me!

Here we see a young male Gyr × Peregrine and a young female Gyr Falcon beginning the very early stages of RoCrow training.

At this stage, it’s essential to build a strong food association with the RoCrow and develop an almost instant response before progressing any further. Establishing this foundation early on makes the next stages of training far more effective and consistent.

Early lessons create a strong foundation to build upon.
