The fairly new pedestrian crossing linking Gostreys with Borelli Walk on South Street is in exactly the right place, but at times it seems to be proving unsafe.
When traffic is building heading towards the dual carriageway, it can be very difficult for drivers to see pedestrians using the crossing.
Likewise, when traffic is flowing freely down from the station, some drivers don't appear to notice the crossing until the last moment, leading to sudden braking.
Pedestrians should take extra care, particularly when crossing from Borelli Walk towards Gostreys, as drivers coming down from the station may not spot them in time.
Perhaps a speed hump, better advance warning signs, or other traffic-calming measures would help ensure vehicles are slowing down before they reach the crossing.
Especially as traffic leaving the Hickleys traffic lights in any direction tend to accelerate quite quickly.
Just a thought, but it may be worth reviewing…
