****LONG POST ALERT 🚨 ******

Hi Everyone, I haven’t posted much on here for a while regards to the care services I provide.

I’ve had a pretty tough few months recently, losing 2 very special clients to me. Although these situations/moments are sad and upsetting for myself and especially their families, I never forget the memories I shared with each individual client. It was all worth it!! Watching them laugh, understanding their personalities, all uniquely outstanding along with learning valuable things from the older generation.

Although I’m no longer accepting any new care clients, I do have a couple to enjoy making more memories with.

My point here is if you’re having any doubt with being a self employed Personal assistant,,,,,,,DON’T!!!
There needs to be more of us!! To offer that continued, quality, one to one care that our lovely grandparents/ parents need.
To be able to offer them a few hours a week maybe, to take them out for lunch instead of staring at 4 walls, or having a rushed care visit because there’s not enough care staff within the industry. (We all know the social care industry is on its knees)
Things need to change!!

Take the leap and be the carer you’ve always wanted to be, become your own boss so you can decide what you want to give to each and every single individual that needs a bit of support.
You won’t regret it! I didn’t!

Here’s Brian enjoying his fish and chips, we’ve been out to see family, had some lunch and he’s had his hair cut. 🥰

☀️ Why do our feet and ankles swell in hot weather?

If your shoes suddenly feel tighter, or your toenails start digging in during the summer, you’re not imagining it!

When we are hot, our blood vessels widen to help cool us down. This allows fluid to leak into the surrounding tissues, and gravity pulls it down into the feet and ankles. Add to the mix dehydration from sweating, together with prolonged sitting or standing such as on a long car journey or flight, and the swelling can become even more noticeable.

There are a number of underlying health conditions that can contribute to oedema, but if it’s caused by the heat, it usually settles on its own. The best way to help yourself is to keep moving. Walk whenever you can, do ankle circles, wiggle your toes, stay well hydrated and put your feet up after a long day. Movement is one of the best ways to encourage healthy circulation.

It’s also a good reminder not to squeeze swollen feet into tight shoes. Choose footwear that gives your feet room to move, and when you’re home, spend some time barefoot (where it’s safe to do so) to let your feet work naturally.

If your swelling is sudden, affects only one leg, is painful, or is associated with redness or shortness of breath, seek medical advice promptly.

Are your feet feeling the heat this week? 👣

“But they’re sensible walking shoes!” 🥾❌

When we talk to patients about the problems caused by narrow, tapered toe boxes, people often assume we mean women’s high heels or pointy fashion shoes 👠

The truth is, plenty of everyday men’s sports and walking shoes are just as guilty of cramping your feet.

Take a look at the photo. The shoe on the left looks perfectly practical, but notice how much it tapers at the front. On the right is its replacement, with a naturally rounded toe box that gives the toes far more room to move instead of being squeezed together.

The reality is that many shoes are designed to look sleek on the shelf rather than follow the natural shape of the human foot. Your toes are meant to spread, helping with balance, shock absorption, and stability. When they’re constantly compressed, it can affect both comfort and foot function over time.

The good news is you don’t have to wear unusual looking shoes to give your feet more space. There are now plenty of walking, sports, and everyday shoes with a foot-shaped toe box that allow your toes to move naturally.

If your shoes look like a triangle at the front, there’s a good chance your feet are paying the price!

Take a moment to compare the shape of your shoes with the shape of your feet. Do they actually match, or have your feet been adapting to your shoes, instead of your shoes supporting the way your feet are designed to move?

Sometimes the simplest change can make the biggest difference. 👟✨

👣 Foot Condition Spotlight
🦠 Fungal Nails

Fungal nails are common and often start after athlete’s foot, wearing damp socks or hosiery, sweaty footwear, nail trauma, or walking barefoot in communal areas.

👀 Signs to look for:
• Yellow, white or brown nails
• Thickened or crumbly nails
• Nails lifting or becoming misshapen

🛡️ Help prevent fungal nails by:
✔️ Keeping feet clean and dry
✔️ Changing socks daily
✔️ Wearing breathable socks, hosiery and footwear
✔️ Treating athlete’s foot promptly

💊 Treatment options include:
• Over-the-counter topical antifungals
• Prescription oral medication
• Professional nail care and debridement

👣 The sooner you treat a fungal nail infection, the easier it is to manage. Left untreated, it can become thicker, spread to other nails and be more difficult to treat.

☀️ Heatwave incoming! ☀️

Don’t forget - your feet need sunscreen too 👣

The tops of our feet are just as vulnerable to sun damage as the rest of our body, and they’re often one of the easiest places to miss when applying SPF.

Stay safe, stay cool, and keep your feet happy this summer 🌞
