Traditional foot soak/bath is used in traditional Chinese medicine and other therapeutic approaches around the world as a great complement to any wellness and health maintenance therapy.
Herbs, essential oils and salts are welcome, but I'm concentrating here only on the benefits of hot water.
The foot bath is especially good at this time of year when it's colder.
The main benefit for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is to balance the energy linked to the kidney meridian.
Some of the main key points of the kidney meridian are located at the feet. According to the TCM, kidney energy is related for example to heredity, time of life, the will to live and it’s like the locomotive of the rest of the body. In addition to some functions related to the organ itself.
Therefore, a change in kidney energy will affect the functioning of the whole body.
Thus , it is indicated to treat stress, nervousness, pain in legs, tiredness and even colds and flu.
Some important tips:
• Be prepared beforehand so as not to step barefoot on the cold floor after the foot bath.
• Leave a towel to dry your feet and a pair of socks to put on right after.
• Be in a location with no wind or air circulation during the foot soak.
• Keep warm on your upper body, using a blanket over the back. You can remove it during the foot bath if you feel hot.
• The water temperature must be pleasant, tolerable, but very hot.
• The water should cover up to above the heel, so that the points of the kidney meridian on the foot are submerged.
• The duration of an ideal foot bath is about 20 minutes. You should feel the heat rise. It may be that for
a woman the time is shorter, she can already feel the heat rise with about 12-15 minutes.
• Ideally, after the foot bath rests at least 20 minutes or sleep until the next day. Your mood on the day
next will be improved and also your health !
