A weekend well spent for 2 of our team .loughran & at Athletic Hip & Groin pain conference šŸ§ šŸ“ššŸ’”

Hip & Groin pain in athletes is rarely simple. It usually involves multiple structures and gets put under huge stress with kicking, cutting and turning - which is exactly why we see so much of it in clinic.

04/06/2026

People think one scan shows everything - it doesn’t, and ultrasound’s a good example of that. šŸ”Ž

knowing which one you actually need is half the job.

We use ultrasound in the clinic for soft tissues near the surface -
•tendons (Achilles, patellar, rotator cuff),
•muscle tears and strains,
•bursitis,
•swelling,
•calcification

Being a dynamic scan, we can also move the joint and watch the tendons or muscles work.

When it’s not the right tool, we refer you on:
anything deep or inside the joint - ligaments, cartilage, meniscus usually needs an MRI; if it’s the bone or joint then an X-ray 🩻

The key is making sure it’s the right scan for the right problem not a scan for the sake of it.

If you’re carrying something and you’re not sure what it needs, come and get it looked at and we’ll point you the right way šŸ‘‰

Should I start with matwork or reformer?šŸ¤”

It’s the question we get asked most - so here’s our honest answer…

If you’re new to Pilates, start with matwork.
It’s where you actually learn the movements, the breathing and the control that everything else is built on.

It’s not the ā€œbeginnerā€ class - it’s the foundations everything else is built on (Our morning classes run at a slightly gentler pace too, ideal if you’re finding your feet)

Reformer is a brilliant next step once you’ve got that base - the machine adds support and resistance in equal measure.

The honest truth? There’s no wrong choice šŸ™ŒšŸ»
Both are physio-led, both rebuild the strength your body relies on every day.

Pain that’s started making decisions for you?
You’re not alone and it’s more fixable than you think. 🧘

So many of the people we see quietly start working around their bodies…
Skipping the gardening or gym.
Asking someone else to lift.
Thinking twice about the stairs.

It creeps in slowly, and it’s easy to write off as ā€œjust getting olderā€ or ā€œjust my back.ā€

But here’s what we see every week in clinic: it’s often not permanent.

It’s muscles that have switched off or weakened and that can be rebuilt.

That’s the whole point of our physio-led Pilates.

Our new 6-week block starts Monday 1st June

Plyo progressions šŸ¦˜āš”ļø

The stage where we begin preparing athletes for the actual demands of sport.

Early-stage jumps and plyos are the bridge between gym strength and on-field readiness.

Done properly, they teach the body to absorb force, produce force, and tolerate the unpredictable demands of sport.

Skip this stage, and there’s a fair chance the tissue isn’t ready for what you’re about to ask of it.

Our rehab process is criteria-based — not calendar-based.

Pain-free doesn’t mean ready 🚫A few weeks doesn’t mean ready 🚫

We’re looking for:āœ”ļø Tall postureāœ”ļø Stiff anklesāœ”ļø Short ground contactsāœ”ļø Controlled landings

These clips are part of that process - unglamorous, repeatable, deliberate work that builds tissue and movement capacity capable of tolerating the demands of sport.

Swipe through to see what early-stage plyometric rehab looks like in our clinic ā†”ļø

Save this for the next time someone tells you they’re ā€œbackā€ because they rested for two weeks šŸ‘€šŸ«

ā€œWhy didn’t my injection work?ā€ šŸ’‰

It’s one of the most common questions we get — and the honest answer is usually the same.

The injection did its job āœ…

A steroid is there to settle inflammation and bring the pain down.

That’s it. That’s the brief.

What it can’t do is undo months (or years) of muscle inhibition, deconditioning, altered movement patterns, or the loss of confidence in loading a joint that’s been sore for a long time.

🪟 An injection opens a window. Rehab is what you do with that window.

Without progressive loading, without retraining the muscles that have been switched off, without rebuilding capacity in the tissue — the pain comes back.

Not because the injection failed, but because nothing changed underneath it.
