💊 You don’t need a prescription to get antibiotics even on the weekend 🏥

Something I see often in NHS GP work and when I work for 111, is that people don’t realise they don’t necessarily need to wait to speak to a doctor or healthcare professional to get antibiotics for common infections. You can just visit your local pharmacy.



You can visit your local pharmacy (can check for local opening times/availability using the NHS find a pharmacy tool) https://communitypharmacy.org.uk/homepage/nhs-pharmacy-first-service/

The pharmacist can assess you and prescribe for you if they deem antibiotics or antivirals are needed.

You can save yourself time and no need to wait to phone 111 or contact your GP surgery and they can spend more of their time talking to people who really need it, and patients can be treated more efficiently by the right professional.

Absolutely nothing to do with Aesthetics or Medicine but we went to The Farmer’s Dog today and was a bit sad I couldn’t get a coffee. But then I realised it’s because British farms don’t produce coffee and so it’s not in keeping with the idea of backing British farming. So I had a Cornish tea and was happy with that because I’m from a farming family and think we should and locally produced products more. Maybe that way local businesses and the lower food miles/carbon footprint could both gain 🐄🐖🐑🌾👨‍🌾

📆 This just came up as a Facebook memory. 4 years ago today I had my own name on the clinic room door, having left the hospital behind for good.

I often reminisce about the team spirit and adrenaline rush (sometimes 😬) at the hospital, as you’ll all have seen me say before but really don’t miss the on-call rotas and deep down, GP was always what I wanted to be 🩺🩺

Can’t believe it’s 10 years ago this week I graduated Medicine and became a junior doctor. My first job was an F1 at Royal United Hospital in Bath and I remember thinking I’d made the wrong career choice after my first week - couldn’t do cannulas, didn’t know how to bleep someone to ask for help (and was worried they’d think I was rubbish) and I had a grumpy consultant as my senior.

This picture is actually me in my final year of Med School, at Southampton General, waiting to scrub in to assist a C-Section at about 3am. We had to get signed off as having watched a birth and I’d sat in with the labouring woman since 7am the morning before. I was knackered having been there 20 hours but needed it signed off so didn’t go home 😂 then she ended up having a caesarean after all that and I still had to go and see another natural birth 🙄.

Time definitely flies and I definitely don’t miss nights/scrubs but I do miss some old colleagues along the way, and the doctors mess and the team spirit (and sometime the odd bit of adrenaline in acute medicine!)👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️🧑‍⚕️

One simple appointment is all it takes. We discuss it, check it under the microscope, freeze it with CryoPen UK and then send you on your way. Your body’s immune system then does the rest and finishes the job.
