This deserved a post. A long post ❗️
what a guy. Aaron always had left knee pain towards the end of the working day, but managed it by doing long warm ups pre session. At the end of 2018, his right knee developed pain. We kind of diagnosed it via FaceTime but we didn’t know what aggravates it so was really inconclusive.
In 2019, his pain worsened but he wanted to race the World Champs in Zolder 🇧🇪. By this point we’d diagnosed a meniscus tear and got on the waiting list for surgery as it had worsened. He had meniscal surgery in 2020 and we started FaceTime rehab, which was going really well but he still couldn’t go on road or bmx rides as it was still uncomfortable.
Then, he borrowed a mates motocross bike as this was pain free and broke his frigging tibia and fibula of the same leg🤦🏻♀️. Couldn’t write it. This resulted in metal rods. Again we started FaceTime rehab and through flare ups, infections and everything else we made really good progress. I was giving Aaron a programme and either doing it via FaceTime or he was sending videos for me to critique. We focused on so many different areas of rehab and didn’t want to rush things given how rocky rehab had been previously.
He rang me about a month ago asking if it was a stupid decision to race the British champs, baring in mind he’d not even been on his BMX, done a gate or clipped in. I said go for it, register and we will make a decision nearer the time, see what happens. The week before the brits he clipped in and did his first gate session.
I can’t believe you were so close to making a final this weekend after so little preparation 🤣. Going out in a semi final is well above any targets we set for this year. You literally could not have made this any harder for me as well as living at the other end of the country but what a ride mate 🖤
