The Heavy Metal Zine Making playlist will be played in the Pod Cafe today (Thursday 9 July) and Tuesday 14 July - Fri 17 July (day of workshop). This playlist was created from the insight of individuals within the Metal Community. I did a call out recently for people's go to Metal tracks that they listen to during difficult mental health times in their lives. This playlist is the collection of those tracks, featured throughout the lead upto the workshop and during.

Here is your opportunity to visit the Pod cafe and listen to playlist
during opening hours (Thurs 11.45am - 2.30pm, Tues 11.45am - 2.30pm - Thur 11.45am - 2.30pm) and then during the workshop on Fri 17 July 10.15am - 3.30pm.

You can also listen to the playlist here on Qobuz streaming service;

If you're free during these times why not pop into the pod cafe and listen to the playlist while enjoying some quality food and drink.

Take care,

Adam

Heavy Metal Therapy Coventry returns with it's June peer support group session at Just Dropped In, record store at Fargo Village, Far Gosford Street, Coventry. The session is FREE to all and lasts 1 hour from 6pm - 7pm. There is no need to book in advance, just turn up on the day.

Join us for a Mental Health Peer Support Session made by heavy metal fans, for heavy metal fans.

Whether you’re struggling, surviving, or just wish to connect with likeminded people — you're not alone.

What is a peer support group?

Our peer support groups are places where metal fans can get together to chat about music and mental health. They are not structured conversations but may focus on a topic or activity (like a playlist or doing crafts). Our groups are run by trained facilitators in peer support - they are not 'treatment' or mental health services, rather a chance to share experiences and discuss coping strategies. We have resources and signposting available at our groups.

Practicalities
Just turn up, no need to book. If you have any accessibility requirements or any questions, please contact us via the Heavy Metal Therapy Coventry Instagram account -

Myself and ourselves at Heavy Metal Therapy were very grateful for our invitation to Birmingham City Council's initiative that commenced on Monday 22nd June at B:Music. We were present at the Heavy Metal and Health Roundtable. Prior to the event each participant was asked...

'If Birmingham already recognises the economic, heritage and tourism value of heavy metal, how do we better evidence and articulate its social, cultural, community and
wellbeing value?'

Heavy Metal Therapy's own Damien shared their lived experience of how metal music has helped with the mental health and wellbeing.

In this creative workshop, attendees will be learning to make their own mini booklet, called a zine. Attendees will learn how to make a traditional 8 page or 18 page zine, whilst listening to some specially selected Heavy Metal tracks, exploring how music makes them feel and reflect. These specially selected tracks will provide attendees with the opportunity to explore mental health themes present within Metal tracks and how these tracks may influence and inspire attendees to create their own zine in a friendly and relaxed space.

Throughout the day, attendees will listen to selected metal tracks and explore how the music makes us feel, in relation to our own mental health and wellbeing, and how metal music through the use of artist lyrics, can help individuals face challenges in their day-to-day life. The workshop aims to channel creative discussion through the use of: collage, colouring, writing, and simple zine‑making techniques.

Each track featured in the soundtrack for this event has been recommended by individuals within the Metal community. Those individuals found that the tracks were beneficial to them during difficult mental health related experiences.

The workshop will feature Adam Sharples, introducing Heavy Metal Therapy (CIC) and his duties as a facilitator for the Heavy Metal Therapy Coventry peer support group. The workshop also features zine making artist Tarla Patel who will be providing expert knowledge and experience upon how to create a traditional 8 page or 18 page zine.

No artistic experience is needed. All materials will be supplied within this workshop, and you’re welcome to work at your own pace.

Free food and drinks will be available (with the option of paying for what they feel towards food and drinks provided if they wish to).

This is a free workshop, where small donations are welcome, should attendees feel the need to.
