Losing fat and building muscle is nearly everyone’s goal in my job, working as a dietitian for a gym - is it yours?

Featured in The Straits Times talking all things protein.

There is a lot of “hype” around protein at the moment.

My take? Getting enough protein still needs to be a conscious focus for many people, particularly if you’re active or looking to build or maintain muscle.

But importantly, protein doesn’t exist in isolation. It needs to sit alongside a balanced diet with enough carbohydrates, healthy fats, fibre and all the other nutrients we need.

For active adults, I’m generally looking at 1.4–2.0 g/kg/day, depending on the individual, their training and their goals.

The practical challenge is often less about knowing the target and more about making it achievable without feeling like you’re constantly eating.

In the article, I share some of the simple ways I approach this with clients, including building meals around protein, making higher-protein swaps and getting more protein without simply making your portions bigger.

Keen to read more? Check out the full article on The Straits Times.

And swipe through for a sample day I put together for a client aiming for around 100 g of protein.

If I wasn’t afraid of hurting your feelings...

You don’t need to eat perfectly. You need an approach you can actually maintain.
That means not swinging between overeating and extreme restriction, or trying to compensate for the weekend by barely eating on Monday.

You can enjoy food, drink, eat out and still make progress.

And being thinner doesn’t automatically mean being healthier.

Singapore runners, wondering whether you can still run outside during the haze?

Before you head out, check the pollution level for your area. I use haze.gov.sg to check the 1-hour PM₂.₅ reading and see what the current conditions are like.

The levels can vary between areas and throughout the day, so it’s worth checking before you exercise.

Just another reason I love Singapore. They’re so on top of monitoring air quality across different areas and keeping us informed.

Save this for haze season.

I fear I may have accidentally found my niche.

Cooking? Love it.
Making up recipes? Love it.
Measuring ingredients? Absolutely not.

So I started making ChatGPT turn my “yeah chuck a bit of this in” cooking into actual recipes.

I test them, change them, make sure they’re balanced… and since I have a load collected now in my archives with tried and tested recipes for myself, I may as well share them with you.

Basically: I do the cooking. ChatGPT does the paperwork.

Anyway, here’s the first one.
Save it for your next lazy dinner.

Dietitian’s and “clean eating” don’t mix (in my opinion 😝)

Thanks for the love from Singapore 🇸🇬 I love it here and the food is A-M-A-zing!
