There’s a belief that deep tissue massage has to hurt to be effective.
Durning training ro work in a spa, the head therapist gave me a treatment to “show how it should feel to the client”.
When I told her it was too painful, she replied:
“Yeah, but you need it.”
That experience stayed with me. The massage was horrible.
Now I know pain isn’t the goal.
The body releases through safety, not force.
Deep tissue can feel intense sometimes even uncomfortable, but there’s a difference between effective pressure and pain that makes your body tense and resist.
You’re allowed to say: “That’s too much pressure.”
Massage should work with your body, not against it 🤍
