One of Belmont's favourite duties in the year. We have been associated with Hard as Oak for many's a year... Now in its eleventh year we have watched this event evolve, witnessed great grit and determination and admired all those who have completed such a challenging obstacle course. From 'Sarge's' inspirational words, Dee for his quad rescues and Dave for checking on things, Richard has a great team. Richard, Lizzie and co, you run a slick event. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes in getting this annual weekend up and running.
Always lovely to work alongside Foyle Search and Rescue who also do an amazing job.
Our first aiders both adults and cadets have thoroughly enjoyed their time, and experiences over the years. Well done everyone and thankyou Richard for having us as part of your team. X

During Volunteering Week I would like to say a big thank you to our volunteers in the Foyle area for their devotion and dedication to duty. We have a great youth presence in the City, our six Badger Setts, run by a brilliant band of leaders, our two wonderful Cadet Units and our two Adult Units. To the members of my beloved Belmont, you are a great bunch of people. These guys turn up week in, week out for training, plus give up some of their precious free time to provide first aid/ambulance cover to community events both local and further a field. We 're the Family of St John. Thanks guys

Congratulations guys, well deserved.

BLUE LIGHT YOUTH CHAMPIONS OF THE YEAR.

A proud and historic evening for Community Rescue Service (CRS) unfolded at the prestigious Blue Light Awards 2026, as dedication to youth development was recognised on a national stage.

The Blue Light Youth Champion of the Year title was jointly awarded to District Commander Ivan Barr and Unit Commander Brenda McAnenny in recognition of the outstanding CRS Youth Development Programme, which they founded in 2015.

What began as a vision to instil discipline, leadership and operational excellence in young people has grown into one of the organisation’s proudest achievements.

The CRS Cadets are not simply a youth group, they are uniformed, ranked members of the organisation. They train to the same professional standards as qualified CRS Search Technicians, embracing the same ethos of commitment, teamwork and operational readiness.

The only distinction is that cadets are not deployed on live search operations.

Through structured training, scenario-based exercises and exposure to real-world expectations, the programme has equipped young people with:

* Strong discipline and personal
accountability
* Leadership and communication
skills
* Confidence under pressure
* A deep understanding of
community service and
operational standards

Many past cadets have progressed with a maturity and resilience beyond their years, crediting the programme’s high expectations and structured environment for shaping their personal and professional journeys.

Also pictured on the night were Cadet Commander Kyra Devine and Assistant Cadet Commander Noah Molloy-O’Donnell, both shining examples of the leadership and dedication fostered within the programme.

Absent from the photograph, but equally integral to the success of the unit, was Second Assistant Cadet Commander Maison Porter.

This award is not simply a trophy, it is recognition of nearly a decade of unwavering commitment to raising standards, developing future leaders, and investing in young people who proudly wear the CRS uniform.

The 2026 Youth Champion of the Year accolade stands as a testament to vision, perseverance and the belief that when you set high expectations for young people, they rise to meet them.

A big congratulations to our Catherine who has been made an Officer in the Order of St John. Catherine has been a member of St John Ambulance since she was sixteenish, just a little while ago. She has been a Badger Leader at Greenhaw for an eternity running her Sett with great enthusiasm. At our annual Badger Camp, back in the day, Catherine was one of the regular leaders. Lately with her different health issues she has been a regular attender at the Adults and has continued to guide her beloved Badger family.
Well done Catherine. ❀️
