Don’t forget about this great offer! Book in ASAP to make sure you don’t miss out.

Sports massage is beneficial for just about everyone, with a plethora of techniques that can be used to accommodate different people, areas and problems. If you're unsure what to expect in an appointment with me, here‘s a small breakdown of some of the techniques that may be used.

Effleurage;
- first technique used in a sports massage session
- used to warm up the muscle and aid relaxation
- increases blood flow and lymphatic drainage
- stimulates the ‘feel good‘ hormones including endorphins, dopamine, oxytocin and more!
- usually kept at a light pressure to prepare the tissue for deeper techniques

Petrissage;
- performed after effleurage, firmer pressure to pe*****te deeper tissue structures
- usually performed towards the heart to promote venous return and waste product drainage (the pressure can encourage a vascular and lymphatic response)
- brings fresh blood to the muscles
- increases muscle elasticity, which in turn, can assist with increased flexibility

Muscle compression;
- incorporated into petrissage
- involves the draining of blood in and around the muscle to allow for fresh blood to flow back through
- works to prevent blood pooling

Neuromuscular Techniques (NMT);
- sometimes referred to as trigger pointing
- pressure on one particularly tender area which can reduce with continued pressure on the area
- performed after during/ nearing the end of petrissage
- leads to increased blood flow, increased energy levels and lowered body toxin levels

Muscle Energy Techniques (MET);
- performed at the end of a massage session
- involved the SLL procedure
○ Shorten- the muscle in shortened/ contracted
○ Lock- the therapist places a ‘lock’ in the muscle
○ Lengthen- the muscle is then lengthened with the lock in place
- used to stretch particularly tight muscles
- improve circulation local to the area
- aid in mobilisation of restricted joints
- helps in strengthening of weakened muscles
