Are you reading this while tilting your head down? Your cervical spine is paying the price. 📉📱
In a neutral upright position, your head weighs about 10–12 lbs. But as soon as you tilt your neck forward to stare at your smartphone, gravity multiplies that load exponentially. This biomechanical stress is what we call "Text Neck."
📐 15° Tilt: Adds 27 lbs (12.2 kg) of pressure—equivalent to hanging a heavy bowling ball from your neck muscles.
📐 45° Tilt: Jumps to 49 lbs (22.2 kg) of pressure—forcing your upper back and cervical spine to support the weight of a large bag of cement.
📐 60° Tilt: Skyrockets to a staggering 60 lbs (27.2 kg) of pressure—putting the equivalent weight of an average 8-year-old child directly onto your lower neck joints!
Over time, this chronic overloading can lead to muscle fatigue, tension headaches, early spinal degeneration, and even herniated discs.
How to protect your spine:
Bring the screen to eye level: Raise your phone up instead of dropping your chin down.
Take frequent micro-breaks: For every 20 minutes of scrolling, look up and gently roll your shoulders back.
Strengthen your upper back: Incorporate chin tucks and scapular retractions into your daily routine to fix your posture.
