5 Signs Your Body Needs a Sports Massage 💆‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Your body gives you warning signs before pain starts affecting your daily life. Here are five signs it might be time to book a sports massage:

1️⃣ Constant Muscle Tightness
If your muscles always feel stiff, even after stretching, they may need more targeted treatment.

2️⃣ Reduced Flexibility
Finding it harder to bend, squat, reach, or move comfortably? Tight muscles can limit your range of motion.

3️⃣ Lingering Aches After Exercise
Soreness that lasts several days or keeps returning could mean your body isn’t recovering as well as it should.

4️⃣ Tension Headaches or Neck Pain
Tight muscles in your neck, shoulders, and upper back can contribute to headaches and discomfort.

5️⃣ You’re Training Hard but Recovering Slowly
Whether you’re in the gym, running, cycling, or playing sport, good recovery is just as important as your training.

Sports massage isn’t just for elite athletes—it’s for anyone who wants to move better, recover well, and reduce muscle tension.

If your body is telling you it needs some attention, send me a message to book your appointment.

Summer activities are fast approaching ☀️

— running, hiking, football, long walks, beach workouts and much more….

— but tight muscles can quietly hold you back!!

With this client during the Thomas test we found, limited hip extension and a lifted thigh which often points to quad tightness restricting movement. If your hips feel stiff, your stride feels off, or your legs fatigue quickly, your body may already be compensating…

Don’t let tightness stop you from enjoying the activities you love this summer. Small mobility issues now can become bigger limitations later. 😩☀️

If you’re feeling tightness or pain anywhere in your body do not hesitate to follow the link in bio. 😀 if you feel quad tightness try this test at home 🙂

What actually happens to your muscles during a sports massage appointment?

1. When pressure is applied to tight spots, the muscle fibers that were stuck in a shortened, protective state begin to deactivate and lengthen, reducing that stiff feeling.

2. Massage pushes fresh, oxygen-rich blood into the muscle and helps move out metabolic waste like lactic acid.

3. Deep pressure sends signals to the brain that reduce muscle guarding and calms the nervous system.

4. Massage helps move lymphatic fluid, which can reduce swelling from training or injury and speed up healing.

5. Knots release, fascia softens, and tension drops, joints can move more freely.

Why does myofascial cupping leave purple/red marks?

1. Suction draws blood to the surface
• The cup creates negative pressure, pulling the skin and fascia upward.
• This stretches and slightly ruptures tiny capillaries (like a bruise), letting red blood cells and fluid collect under the skin.

2. Microtrauma + healing response
• The pooled blood looks like a circular mark or discoloration.
• The body treats it like any small bruise: breaking down the blood cells and reabsorbing them over several days.

3. Circulation changes
• The suction also increases local circulation and stimulates lymph flow.
• In fascial and massage therapy, the marks are often interpreted as areas where circulation was restricted or where tissue tension was higher.

4. Why they vary in color
• Light pink/red: mild suction or healthy circulation.
• Dark red/purple/blue: stronger suction, more stagnation, or more tissue tightness.
• Yellow/green as they fade: normal bruise healing as hemoglobin breaks down.

Benefits of sports massage for the traps:🙌

• Relieve muscle tension by breaking down adhesions (knots) and encouraging the fibers to relax.

• Increase circulation, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the area while flushing out metabolic waste.

• Reduce pain and stiffness, improving range of motion in the neck, shoulders, and upper back.

• Promote relaxation, calming the nervous
system and lowering stress that often fuels trap tightness.

• Improve posture and performance by helping the muscles reset so they don’t stay chronically tight.

• Aid recovery if you’re training hard, since it can reduce post-exercise soreness.

If your upper back is sore and in need of a sports massage use the link in the bio or directly message me to book an appointment.
