Here at Balmoral Training & Safety we have been super busy the last couple of months with a RYA First Aid course for St Andrews Sailing Club, we manned a safety boat for St Andrews University Beach Rowing Sprint Championships which was something a little different for us but a nice change. To top that off, we have been out on the Tay for some powerboat familiarisation training sessions for a client before they do a formal RYA course.

⚠️STORM CHANDRA⚠️

Stay safe, Dundee! Storm Chandra is bringing dangerous conditions to the Tay!

The RNLI and Coastguard are urging everyone to stay back from the water’s edge, especially at Broughty Ferry and the Arbroath Cliffs.

SAFETY - Stay off the Ferry sea wall. Seaweed to the face is not a spa treatment . If you see a massive wave, don't try to film it for TikTok… run the other way! See trouble? Call 999. Ask for the Coastguard.

If you are heading out (please don't), keep dogs on leads and stay 10m back from any sea walls. A slap to the face from a fish is painful!!

🛟If you end up in the Tay, don't thrash around! Lean back, extend your arms and legs like a starfish, and float until your breathing is under control.

Did you know that 30cm of moving water is enough to float your car. If the road looks like a loch, it IS a loch. Turn around.

Stay dry, stay safe, and keep an eye on your neighbours (and their trampolines).

A very cold weekend teaching 2 lovely ladies their Powerboat level 2 at a local club. We were all freezing but they done amazing during the weekend. Lots of skills learned and lots of knowledge gained.

This will be our last course of this year, as the season comes to an end... but don't worry, we'll be back next year to do it all again!

We were approached by a client who has recently bought a boat and was looking for a hints, tips and tricks session.

We met in a convenient location and talked over safe launching and recovering. Once out on the water we talked over some basic boat handling. We had a discussion about the client booking an RYA powerboat Level 2 course at a recognised training centre to further develop their skills.

We also showed the client how to adjust their engine to maximise speed and handling.

Great day today teaching an RYA First Aid course. It was a good opportunity to test out some new equipment and some new teaching points that have recently changed.
