September always brings us back into our routines and it can be a good time to check in with ourselves, to notice how we’re feeling and what we might need as we move into this new season.

It can also be an opportunity to slow down and make more time for rest.

We offer Sleep Clinic sessions on both Monday and Friday evenings, creating a little space to pause, reset and step away from the busyness of the week.

Whether you’re starting the week feeling in need of a reset, or looking to wind down after a busy one, our evening sessions offer time to slow down, turn inward and prepare for better rest.

Spaces available for Friday / Send me a message to book or for more info.

ONE MONTH TO GO!

We are bringing Points of Rest back to The Yoga Barn Retford on Friday 25th September from 6.30pm - 8.30pm.

If you’ve wondered what this workshop is about this post might answer some questions for you!

September can be a busy, and sometimes a little chaotic! Kids starting back to school and getting our routines back can be tough so that’s why we wanted to bring Points of Rest back this month.

Give yourself two hours at the end of a busy week to switch off and allow yourself to truly rest and relax. No experience of yoga is needed and everyone is very welcome!

If you have any questions or queries send us a DM or comment below!

We loved receiving this feedback after our last Points of Rest workshop. From acupuncture and meditation to the vibrations of the Tibetan sound bowls, the whole experience is designed to help you slow down, switch off and create space to rest.

Sometimes, you don’t realise just how much you needed to stop until you finally do.

Our next Points of Rest Workshop is on Friday 25th September Yoga Barn Retford

Feeling stuck in fight or flight mode?

Stress and anxiety don’t just affect your mind, they affect your entire body. When we’re under prolonged stress, our nervous system can become stuck in “fight or flight” mode, leaving us feeling anxious, tense, overwhelmed, and exhausted.

One way to help restore balance is by stimulating the vagus nerve.

The vagus nerve is a key part of your parasympathetic nervous system, your body’s “rest and digest” response.

Gentle stimulation can help:
✨ Slow your heart rate
✨ Reduce feelings of anxiety and stress
✨ Encourage deeper breathing
✨ Improve digestion
✨ Promote relaxation and a sense of calm

At ARC, I use auricular (ear) acupuncture, alongside body acupuncture where appropriate, to help stimulate the vagus nerve and support your nervous system in shifting away from adrenaline-driven survival mode and towards a calmer, more regulated state.

You don’t have to live in a constant state of stress. Your nervous system can learn to feel safe again.

Massage and Dry needling are often used for different reasons, not because one is “better” than the other.

Massage can be excellent for relaxation, circulation, and easing general muscle tension.

Dry needling is typically used when there are specific trigger points, persistent tightness, or movement restrictions that need a more targeted approach.

In many cases, they can actually complement each other.

The goal is always the same: helping you move and feel better.

Different tools. Different approaches. Different reasons for using them.

Get in touch if you have any questions about Dry Needling, Acupuncture or The Sleep Clinic at ARC.

Have you ever seen a muscle twitch during dry needling?

It’s called a twitch response, it’s an involuntary reflex that can happen when a trigger point is stimulated.

For many people, it’s a sign that a tight or overactive muscle has been targeted directly.

Not every muscle twitches, and not every treatment looks the same but these responses are totally normal during a dry needling session.

The goal is always to help reduce tension, improve movement and support recovery.

Your body has ways of asking for rest before it forces you to slow down.

Constant tension
Feeling exhausted no matter how much you sleep
Energy crashes
Trouble switching off
Stress showing up physically

These symptoms can become so normal that we stop paying attention to them, but they’re often signs that the nervous system is under pressure.

Acupuncture can help support regulation, recovery, and relaxation by giving the body space to slow down and reset.

Self-care isn’t always doing more. Sometimes it’s allowing your body to recover properly. ✨

Join Gràinne and I in celebrating the return of Summer with a deeply nourishing practice.

This Summer Solstice edition of Points of Rest weaves together slow, mindful movement, acupuncture, Yoga Nidra, and sound to honour the return of light while inviting the body into balance.

We’ll begin with a gentle slow flow to awaken the body and ease you into the space. From there, Gráinne will place a selection of carefully chosen acupuncture points to support relaxation, release tension, and regulate the nervous system.

As the points settle, you’ll be guided into a deeply restorative Yoga Nidra, allowing the body to soften and the mind to unwind. To close, you’ll be immersed in a soothing soundscape, helping you ground, integrate, and fully receive the energy of this new season.

This is a space to pause, reset, and align with the expansive energy of the Summer Solstice. We hope you leave feeling calm, restored, and re-energised.
