One thing I hear from women all the time is how easy it is to become obsessed with the number on the scales.
And honestly, I’ve been there too. ❤️
When I first started going to the gym, I noticed I was actually putting weight on, and at the time that terrified me. I was exercising, eating well and doing everything I thought I was supposed to, so seeing the number go up felt like I was failing.
But my body was changing. 💪🏼
I was lifting weights, running, getting stronger and building muscle. My body shape was changing and I was looking slimmer, even though the number on the scales had gone up.
That was one of the biggest things that changed the way I looked at progress.
If your goal is to lose body weight, nutrition obviously matters, but strength training, running and staying active can all play a really important part too. 🏃🏼♀️🏋🏼♀️
But your weight is not the only measure of progress.
Maybe you're lifting heavier. 💪🏼
Maybe you can run further. 🏃🏼♀️
Maybe you've got more energy. ⚡
Maybe your mental health is better. 🧠❤️
Maybe you're more confident. 🥰
Maybe your clothes fit differently. 👖
Or maybe you're finally able to carry all the shopping in from the car in one trip. 😂🛍️
All of those things matter too.
Your body is so much more than a number on a set of scales, and the positive changes you make through exercise can reach so much further than what you see when you weigh yourself. ❤️
So if the number isn't moving exactly how you hoped, don't automatically assume that nothing is changing.
Sometimes the progress you can't see on the scales is actually some of the most important progress you're making. 🥰
