“I don’t know who I am anymore.”

It’s one of the most common things we hear from women during perimenopause and menopause.

For many, this feeling goes far beyond hot flushes or disturbed sleep. It reaches much deeper. It can feel as though your sense of identity has quietly slipped away.

You may no longer recognise the woman you once were. Confidence feels different. Your emotions seem unfamiliar. The things that used to motivate or excite you no longer have the same appeal.

At the same time, life is often changing around you.
Children leave home. Parents grow older and need support. Careers evolve, relationships shift, and many women begin asking questions they have never had time to consider before.

Who am I now?

It’s an unsettling question, but also an important one.
Menopause is often portrayed as something to endure, yet for many women it becomes a turning point. As hormones change, so do priorities. The expectations you’ve carried for decades begin to lift, creating space to think differently about the years ahead.

Rather than seeing this as losing yourself, try to see it as rediscovering yourself.

Many women find renewed purpose during this stage of life. They start businesses, retrain, volunteer, travel, write, create, or simply give themselves permission to put their own wellbeing first for the first time in years.

Finding your place again rarely happens overnight, and it doesn’t mean becoming the person you were at 30 or 40.

It means embracing the woman you are today, with everything you’ve learned, overcome and achieved.

If you’re feeling lost, know that you’re in good company. Thousands of women describe exactly the same emotions during menopause. With understanding, support and time, that uncertainty often gives way to renewed confidence and a clearer sense of direction.

At the Menopause Experts Group, we’ve seen countless women emerge from this stage stronger, wiser and more fulfilled than they ever imagined. Mostly our dear champions!

Menopause isn’t the end of who you are.

For many, it’s the beginning of becoming the person they were always meant to be ♥️

This heartbreaking story is exactly why the work of Menopause Experts Group and our Licensed Menopause Champions matters.

The headlines focus on brain fog, but anyone who has worked closely with women navigating perimenopause knows that the reality can be far more complex. Sleep disruption, anxiety, loss of confidence, cognitive changes and a growing sense that you are somehow becoming a different person can have a profound effect on every aspect of life.

For some women, those changes arrive at a time when they are already carrying enormous responsibilities. Careers are often at their peak. Children may still need support. Ageing parents may require care. Relationships can be under pressure. The cumulative effect can leave women feeling isolated, frightened and increasingly unable to recognise themselves.

At Menopause Experts Group, we were among the first organisations to raise concerns about the increasing number of midlife women losing their lives to su***de. While su***de is not the biggest overall cause of death in this age group, the menopause years are now associated with the highest female su***de rates in the UK. These are not simply statistics. Behind every number is a daughter, mother, partner, friend, colleague or business leader whose loss leaves an immeasurable gap.

This is precisely why better understanding is needed. Our Licensed Menopause Champions come from many different backgrounds. Some are clinicians, counsellors and psychotherapists. Others work in HR, coaching, fitness, education, wellbeing, community support or business. They are united by a desire to better understand the challenges women may face and to provide informed, compassionate support when it is needed.

Champions are not there to diagnose or replace professional medical care. What they can do is recognise when somebody is struggling, create a safe space for conversation and help people access the right support at the right time. Often, a woman will speak first to someone she trusts long before she books a medical appointment. That trusted person might be a coach, a yoga instructor, a colleague, a therapist or a Menopause Champion.

Nobody can claim that one conversation will prevent a tragedy. Life is rarely that simple. Yet we know that feeling heard can be powerful. We know that understanding reduces fear. We know that knowledge helps people make informed decisions. And we know that when support is available early, outcomes are often better.

Stories like Victoria’s should never be dismissed as isolated cases. They should encourage all of us to ask whether women are receiving the understanding, information and support they need during one of the most significant transitions of their lives.

The answer, too often, is no. That is why we continue to educate, advocate and train Champions across the UK and beyond. Because every woman deserves the opportunity to navigate this stage of life with dignity, understanding and hope.

Remember to hydrate especially in warmer weather ☀️

Watermelon is often underestimated because it tastes sweet and refreshing, but nutritionally it offers more than people expect. Made up of around 90%+ water, it can contribute to hydration while also providing small amounts of important nutrients including vitamin C, vitamin A (through beta-carotene), potassium and some B vitamins. Vitamin C supports normal immune function and collagen formation, while vitamin A contributes to skin and vision health. Watermelon is also relatively low in calories for its volume, making it a satisfying option for people wanting something naturally sweet without feeling heavy.

One of watermelon’s most interesting compounds is lycopene, a naturally occurring antioxidant that gives the fruit its rich pink-red colour. Lycopene has been studied for its role in protecting cells from oxidative stress and supporting overall health. Watermelon also contains citrulline, an amino acid that the body can convert into arginine, which is involved in blood flow and circulation. While watermelon is not a high-protein or high-fibre food, pairing it with foods that contain protein, healthy fats or fibre (such as Greek yoghurt, nuts, seeds or cheese) can create a more balanced snack and help keep you feeling fuller for longer. 🍉

Menopause in Hot Weather ☀️ Here are some top tips.

Hot weather can feel very different during menopause. Even women who have never experienced hot flushes before can notice more heat sensitivity, disrupted sleep, irritability, headaches, fatigue or feeling overwhelmed in warmer temperatures.

Here are some simple things that can really help:

☀️ Dress for airflow, not just less clothing
Natural fibres such as cotton, linen and lightweight bamboo can feel cooler than synthetic fabrics that trap heat.

💧 Hydrate earlier than you think you need to Sip consistently across the day rather than waiting until you feel thirsty. Water-rich foods such as watermelon, cucumber, strawberries and leafy salads can help too.

🧊 Cool your pulse points
Wrists, neck, behind knees and inner elbows are surprisingly effective places to cool quickly with cool water, a chilled flannel or cooling roller.

🥗 Watch common heat triggers
For some people: alcohol, spicy food, very hot drinks, excess caffeine and heavy meals can make flushing feel worse in hot weather.

🛏️ Think about your evening routine
Keep bedrooms cool where possible, avoid overheating before bed and consider lighter bedding if night sweats are an issue.

🚶‍♀️ Shift activity times
Exercise can still be helpful, but early morning or later evening may feel far more comfortable than midday heat.

🧠 Be kind to your brain, not just your body
Heat can affect concentration, patience and decision making. Brain fog may feel more noticeable in warmer weather.

🌿 Cool spaces matter
Seek shade, cafés, parks, quiet indoor spaces or simply permission to slow down. Rest is productive too.

👒 Protect your skin
Menopause can bring skin changes including dryness and sensitivity, so shade, hydration and sun protection become even more important.

And perhaps the biggest reminder…

You are not “bad at coping with heat.” Your body may simply be regulating temperature differently right now.

Listen to it, work with it, not against it. ⭐️
