What is the biggest challenge to being mindful? Remembering to do it! No matter how well intentioned we are about our practice, there are those days where life seems to get in the way. The time we normally carve out for our practice flows through our fingers like so many grains of sand!

But fear not. Even if we miss our formal practice, we can still commit to engaging mindfully, informally throughout the day. It might be taking a few conscious breathes before picking up the phone or focusing on the body as we boil a kettle instead of idly scrolling our phones. It can be pausing to savour the food we are eating, even if only for a moment. It can be noticing how the shower feels on the skin or how the wind feels against our face. Anything can be a moment of mini meditation, even the single conscious breath that Tolle talks of in this quote!

If you are looking for some mini meditations to drop into your busy day, then why not visit our YouTube channel that has over 180 to choose from! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn39xstlQJ4s3c4iD-ytUrMWXEErQy4JP

Today’s offering of a mini meditation helps us connect with the flow of life, that endless flux and change of experience, through the breath.

It allows us t take 5 minutes to simply follow the natural rhythm of our bodies, of our breath and to let go of the worries and concerns of the mind and simply rest.
In this state of “non-doing” we can experience the fullness of this changing life simply, softly, allowing life to move through us without the need to control, fix or change anything! Whatever arises is ok!

This simple act of stopping and being can be liberating and help us let go of the unnecessary holding and grasping that can arise in the mind during a busy day!

Our YouTube channel offers hundreds of free meditation recordings you can access anytime, anywhere. Whether you're looking for a quick five-minute reset or a longer guided session, there's something for every mood and schedule.

UPCOMING COURSES

Coming up we have courses that show how mindfulness is so much more than simply sitting on a cushion and breathing! We have some courses that delve into the bigger questions of life with and practice.

Sharing our Treasure is a unique and wonderful opportunity for teachers to look at who it is they want to teach, allowing them to connect authentically with what drives them to teach and then exploring how to connect with that audience! https://www.mindfulnessassociation.net/course/sharing-your-treasure/

Nature is our Teacher widens the scope of mindfulness practice beyond our practice space our int the world. Humans benefit from direct connection with nature and this course can help us deepen that connection through mindfulness. https://www.mindfulnessassociation.net/course/nature-is-our-teacher/

Similarly, the Mystical Poetry Practice Day shows how engaging with poetry mindfully can widen the scope of practice, using the lyrical and metaphorical language of poetry can help us tap into our emotions and experience life more fully. https://www.mindfulnessassociation.net/course/mystical-poetry-practice-day/

Our Equanimity Weekend is a perfect course for our increasingly polarised times. It supports us in loosening black-and-white thinking, where things are either good or bad, for or against, and invites a wider, more balanced view! https://www.mindfulnessassociation.net/course/equanimity/

July Charity Mindfulness Challenge – Appreciate the Summer with Mindfulness!

https://www.mindfulnessassociation.net/course/31-day-challenge-online/

For many the summer months are a welcome relief from the cold, wet and often gloomy weather (especially here in the UK) of winter and spring. With the summer on the horizon, we are inviting you to join our July Charity Mindfulness Challenge so you can bring mindful awareness to the joys of the season

This is an opportunity to boost your mindfulness practice whilst raising money for charity!

Every morning over July an email with a 10-15 minute mindfulness practice with a summer twist will arrive in your inbox led by a Mindfulness Association or Everyone Project Tutor. Practices include reflecting on happy summer memories, mindful movement including yoga and qigong, cooling self compassion, mindful barefoot walking, mindful paddling and kindness practice whilst taking in the warmth of the sun.

About the Everyone Project

The Everyone Project is committed to offering evidence based mindfulness courses, such as the eight week Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC) to people who are not otherwise able to access a mindfulness course.

In particular we want to help disadvantaged and isolated groups, and those living with multiple stressors. We do this because we are passionate about the power of Mindfulness to empower all in our society to flourish and achieve their true potential.

If you would like more information and to sign up to the challenge, please follow the link https://www.mindfulnessassociation.net/course/31-day-challenge-online/

FREE MINDFULNESS CALENDAR:
"TURN OFF, TUNE IN" - a month of digital detox 📵📵

We spend increasing amounts of our life looking at screens, be it for work, entertainment, to shop or pay bills. So much time on a device (often simply distracting ourselves or fending off moments of boredom) takes us away from the present moment, robs us of the depth and variety of seeing life with a beginner’s mind.

This month our calendar is an invitation to put down your screens and engage directly with our experience, something that has the added bonus of occurring as we move into summer and more clement weather! Put down the device, look up and enjoy the moment!

The mind wanders. It’s what it does. In mindfulness the invitation is to notice this habit, without judgement, and refocus on the present moment. Over and over again!

It all sounds tranquil, and somewhat easy. However, the wandering mind is not so always so easy and tranquil. As the psychologists Killingsworth and Gilbert quipped, “the wandering mind is an unhappy mind”

Whilst glib, it does contain an important truth. When our mind wanders, we are more likely to get caught up in things that we see as worrying, threatening, unresolved or unpleasant. Once caught up in these thoughts, usually about the past of potential future, they are the things that shape our mood, our behaviour and how we rete to ourselves and others.

Mindfulness allows us to recognise this “mental time travel”, to observe those patterns of projecting into an unknown future or ruminating on a past we cannot change, and to let them go. We label the cascades of ruminative and panicky thoughts as “thinking” and gently reconnect with the reality of the present moment. Slow, patient work that over time reduces our habits of projection and rumination and helps us be calmer and happier.

Mindfulness is often mis-sold as a panacea, something that will banish depression and anxiety, leaving the practitioner a zen bubble floating on a cloudless sky. If you expect this then you will be disappointed.

But what mindfulness can give you is profound. It allows you to step outside the projections and ruminations that hold us emotional prisoners. It gives you resilience and the ability to let go of that which causes unnecessary suffering. This is so much bigger than a few moments of relaxation. This is life changing.
