A personal story can do more than describe an experience or present the impact. It can help someone else feel understood and less alone πŸ«‚

That is what Lee Hutton, an Outreach Worker for our Hearing Voices service in Fife, brings to her peer-support work: connection, trust and reassurance that difficult experiences can be spoken about openly.

Lee’s story and impact on others led to her nomination for The Mental Health Awards and a special Letter of Recognition.

Congratulations, Lee and thank you for the difference you continue to make!

Could you stay focused, play sport and connect with others while hearing distressing voices? ⛳️

At this year’s ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open, golfers tried our immersive experience using audio designed to reflect some of the challenges associated with psychosis and schizophrenia.

Thank you to Movement For Health, Scottish Golf & Dundonald Links for helping us challenge assumptions about enduring mental illness.

Getting better isn't always about therapy or medication. Sometimes, it's a friend who checked in at the right moment, didn't look away and just... stayed.

This , we made something you can send to that person.

"I'm still here because of you."

Tag or send this to the friend who's part of your mental health story, even if they don't know it πŸ’›

Did you know we have a guide to voices and sensory disturbances?

This small booklet gives further information, as well as guidance on how to support yourself and others when managing voices.

It has also been created and updated in partnership with people who are supported by our Hearing Voices service.

πŸ“– We can send you free copies! Email [email protected] and we'll post them. There is also a digital version in the comments.

Being a carer can leave little time to focus on yourself. That's why creating opportunities to connect, build friendships and enjoy time together matters πŸ’™

Thanks to funding from the Community Chest Fund through Fife Health and Social Care Partnership, we're expanding our Carer Support service across Fife.

Alongside one-to-one support, there are shared occasions for peer support and getting to know each other through excursions and connection.

We're taking referrals for unpaid carers supporting someone living with a mental illness. Head to the comments to find out more πŸ‘‡

At our resource centre in Stranraer, people value many things πŸ”’

Making friends, trying new activities, structure, a safe space of belonging, and feeling heard and understood.

By supporting the whole person and making them feel more connected to their community, our service helps people recognise their strengths and reconnect with community at a pace that works for them.

πŸ–οΈ Before you scroll on, focus on that stat: that's 10% or 1 in 20 people.

How we talk about schizophrenia matters. Learn more, ask better questions and help someone feel safe reaching out for support.

Hello, it's National Schizophrenia Awareness Day πŸ‘‹

All week long, we've been answering the questions people are typing into search engines. Today, we’re confronting the biggest myths head-on.

Watch it, share it and help us make the search for the truth a little easier.

"What do your voices actually sound like?"

We asked that question to people supported by our Hearing Voices service in Fife.

πŸ‘‰ "Mine sound like people I know, friends, doctors."
✍️ "Mine are mumbo jumbo. I can't understand anything they say."
πŸ’¬ "I have a female voice who sings all the time. The male voices just talk."
πŸ’” "Nasty, never nice, I've never had a nice voice."

No two people hear voices the same way.

πŸ”οΈ Diagnosis of schizophrenia is rarely about one person. People search "Is there support for families?" and "How do I support a loved one with schizophrenia?"

Partners, parents, children and friends often become carers without ever expecting to and without knowing where to turn.

That's why we run a Carer Support service: emotional support, peer groups and guidance on carers' rights in areas across Scotland.

Our National Advice and Support Service can go one further and help you find the right service.
