As we make our way through January, if you’re feeling discouraged about New Year’s resolutions, I want you to know that you’re not alone and you haven’t failed.

January can be a really hard time to change. The days are dark and cold, energy is low.

Change doesn’t happen just because the calendar turns. It happens gradually, often with stops, starts, and resets along the way. When resolutions don’t stick, it’s rarely about willpower.

AND.. those resolutions were probably about something that matters to you: health, rest, connection, balance. Rather than forcing change, it can be more effective to ask: what direction am I trying to move in, and how might I honour that intention more gently?

I'm resharing a blog from last year about how we change.

And if you want support for the journey, I'd be honoured to walk alongside. You can get in touch by email or book a free compatability call to explore how psychological therapy might help.

Be kind to yourself. Change is a process 💚

We are creatures of habit and change is hard. Even when we choose to change, it can be tough to make it stick. It’s common to falter, to give up and hopefully to try again. Whether you’re trying to start something new or leave something behind; understanding the natural process of change can hel...

✨New year, new focus in my work with OCD

Now offering Inference-based CBT (I-CBT) which is a treatment approach developed specifically for OCD. It helps us understand how obsessional doubts are formed, and why “what if” thoughts can start to feel more real than our direct experience.

Over the past year, I’ve been learning about this model, and it’s brought clarity to many clinical questions in my work. In 2026, I’m committed to continuing to develop my skills in I-CBT and offering this approach in my practice.

If you'd like to learn more you can read my latest blog

As the year ends, I’ve been reflecting on my work with people experiencing OCD, a condition often driven by persistent doubt and “what if” thinking; and on some of the clinical questions that have stayed with me. One of the most enduring has been: how do we know when an anxious thought is OCD,...

Why Avoiding Emotions Doesn’t WorkWhen strong, uncomfortable emotions show up, it can feel natural to avoid, ignore, or try to fix them. After all, that’s how we deal with many challenges in our environment, and those strategies often work. You might avoid a traffic jam, ignore a rude comment, o...

Hugging my younger self ❤️
This trend is bringing Compassion-Focussed Therapy into focus 🔎 and I love it.
We all carry younger versions of ourselves in our thoughts, feelings and behaviours today.

As an adult, we become responsible for looking after that inner child; offering comfort and guidance to shape the life we want to lead. But you don't have to do it alone. Psychological therapy can help build insight, compassion and action towards a life that you value.

You can read more about compassion-foccused therapy in my latest blog: https://www.moraypsychologyservices.com/post/hugging-my-younger-self-compassion-focussed-therapy-in-action

Have you seen this trend on social media? People creating an image of themselves hugging their younger self?I couldn’t resist, because it beautifully brings to life a powerful concept from Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT): "It's not your fault, but it is your responsibility."How Our History Shapes...

Many people wonder: “Do I need therapy?” 💭

My answer as a psychologist might surprise you:
Probably not.

“Need” implies something is necessary for survival or functioning. It can also suggest that the power to resolve your struggles lies in someone else’s hands. Neither of these ideas support positive mental wellbeing.

But what if, instead, you asked:
“Could I benefit from therapy?”

Notice how that small shift in perspective changes how you feel — about yourself, and about therapy.

If you’re considering therapy, you can read more in my latest blog.

As a psychologist, it’s not uncommon for clients or potential clients to ask me: “Do I need therapy?”It’s such a human question, and often it feels heavy. Sometimes it’s asked with apprehension, anxiety, or even shame. So, let’s unpack that a little…I’m always curious, with myself an...

🌿 When something in the present pulls you back into the past… how do you return to the here and now?

One tool from Trauma-Focused CBT is called trigger discrimination. It’s a gentle, step-by-step way to help you notice what’s happening, offer yourself compassion, and remind yourself of the difference between “then” and “now.”

If you’ve ever felt caught off guard by a trigger, this approach may help you feel more grounded and safe in the present moment. 💙

And if you’d like support in navigating trauma symptoms, know that you don’t have to go through it alone. Reach out when you’re ready — I’d be honored to walk alongside you in your recovery.
