Even the best planned funerals sometimes have to adapt, and today was one of those occasions.
We had the privilege of conducting the funeral of a much-loved mum and nan. Whilst the day began with torrential rain and flashes of lightning, our umbrellas were at the ready and, as always, everyone pulled together to ensure her final journey was a fitting tribute.
Today also marked our first service at St Peter’s Church, Coton. Despite the challenging weather, the church provided a beautiful setting for family and friends to gather and remember a life well lived.
This was a service filled with love and personal touches. Her children wrote heartfelt tributes, proudly shouldered the coffin and created the service sheets themselves, making the funeral incredibly personal and bespoke.
A keen artist throughout her life, examples of her work were displayed both in the church and later at the wake venue, allowing family and friends to celebrate not only the person she was, but also the talent she shared with others.
Reverend Claire Robertson added another deeply personal touch to the service by playing a moving piece of music. Her musical talent shone through and created a moment that many in attendance will remember for a long time.
Although the heavens opened as the service began, the rain eventually gave way to beautiful sunshine for the committal, a fitting end to a day filled with love, memories and heartfelt farewells.
It was a privilege for all of us at Vail Funeral Services to support this wonderful family as they said their final goodbye.
