Starting University and Wondering if You Might Be Autistic? 🌈

University is a big change, and for some students, it can highlight differences they've experienced for years but never quite understood.

Here are some signs to look out for:
🧠 Feeling overwhelmed by new places, busy schedules or sudden changes
🔊 Finding noise, bright lights or crowds hard to manage
💬 Small talk and unwritten social rules feeling exhausting
📅 Needing routine, structure and clear expectations
🎭 Masking: constantly trying to fit in or copying others
💤 Needing lots of downtime after lectures or socialising

💜 Autism looks different for everyone. Recognising some of these signs doesn’t necessarily mean you’re autistic, but it may be worth exploring. You don’t need a diagnosis to ask for support. Your university’s wellbeing, disability or student support team can help.

We’re pleased to announce that Epic Solutions is now offering autism assessments for 18-25-year-olds through the NHS Right to Choose pathway.

Right to Choose is a legal entitlement that allows patients in England to choose a provider for their autism assessment instead of waiting for their local NHS service. Assessments through this pathway are funded by the NHS, meaning there is no cost to the patient.

Emily has extensive expertise of working with children and young people, she is joining us as a play and creative therapist for a wide range of needs including anxiety, neurodivergence and trauma. Welcome Emily!

Did you know that ARFID can affect adults too?

Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) can make eating difficult for many reasons, including:

🥦 Sensory sensitivities – struggling with certain food textures, smells, tastes or appearances.

💚 Fear of consequences – worrying about choking, vomiting or experiencing pain after eating.

🍽️ Limited interest in food – having little appetite or finding eating difficult to manage.

These challenges can affect nutrition, relationships, university, work, social occasions and everyday life.

ARFID is not a choice, and it is not simply being a fussy eater. Adults living with ARFID deserve understanding, compassion and appropriate support.

You are not alone. ARFID deserves awareness at every age.

Winney is EPIC's youngest four-legged team member. As a puppy, she is currently developing her skills as a Therapy Dog and is already proving to be a gentle, friendly, and reassuring presence for children and young people.

She helps to reduce anxiety and create a sense of comfort from the moment they arrive. Her playful nature and affectionate personality can help build connections and encourage engagement, particularly for those who may find it difficult to express their thoughts and feelings.
