☀️ Keeping babies safe in hot weather ☀️

As temperatures rise, it’s important to help keep babies cool and comfortable.

💛 Dress your baby in light clothing with fewer layers
💛 Keep rooms as cool as possible by closing curtains during the day
💛 Use a room thermometer where possible
💛 If using a fan, ensure it is not blowing directly on your baby
💛 Check your baby’s chest or the back of their neck to make sure they are not too hot

The Lullaby Trust recommends keeping your baby’s sleeping environment comfortable and avoiding overheating, which can increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). (The Lullaby Trust)

We are looking at how we can better support babies and families when they leave the neonatal unit. If you are a parent or carer who has experienced Neonatal support at the RD&E Wonford or NDDH or outreach support across East and North Devon, then we would really value your thoughts.

💛 What is a Neonatal Outreach Service?

After a baby has needed care on the neonatal unit, some families benefit from extra support when going home. A Neonatal Outreach Service is a team of healthcare professionals who:

⭐Support babies and families after leaving the neonatal unit
⭐Offer advice and reassurance
⭐Check how your baby is feeding, growing and developing
⭐Visit you at home if needed
⭐Provide support by phone or video
⭐Help you feel more confident caring for your baby at home
⭐For some babies, this kind of support can mean they are able to go home sooner, with the right help in place.
