Yesterday I was interviewed by Isabel Woodman, a journalist with the Financial Times, who was writing an article about gambling addiction. Not actually something I specialise in, but we had an interesting talk. She asked me how someone seeking hypnotherapy should choose which hypnotherapist to see? I said that's a good question, because hypnotherapy right now is a "saturated market," meaning there's a huge number of people trying to make a living at it, few of whom have much experience. The schools keep churning them out, often with only 120 hours face-to-face training (3 weeks) because that's how the schools make their money. Too many hypnotherapists so too few clients for each of them. They can't build experience and expertise, and after a few years they quit, having blown thousands on training and advertising. From the client's point of view I'd advise going for someone who has at least 5 years experience, and who shows evidence of actually understanding your specific problem.
