Some fantastic feedback from the students that attended our recent Expressive Landscape Painting Weekend at Townsend House in Minehead.
As a tutor, nothing is more satisfying than seeing progress in students work and there were plenty of moments during this weekend that I witnessed it.
Due to the success, we would like to rerun this workshop either as early as a weekend in July or later in the year.
The workshop is suitable for those who would like to become more expressive with their work, those who tend to put too much detail in and overwork their paintings.

Day 1
Theory and a series of short exercises.

Day 2
Your final large expressive painting.

Do I like working weekends?
Only when I'm teaching art!
🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨
An absolutely fantastic weekend tutoring our Expressive Landscape Painting workshop at Townsend House in Minehead.

Learning to become more expressive with your paintings certainly isn't easy and requires lots and lots of practice.
It was a pleasure to be able to discuss my theory regarding inspiration and our creative minds.
Lots of discussions and some exercises to help explain why our conditioned mind and lots of outlines hold us back from becoming more expressive and restrict a painting from spontaneous development.

Some outstanding work produced, some tired and exhausted minds by the end of the weekend.
We even had some 'start again' moments which are equally important than finished work.
It's very brave to wipe away work that you have been working on all morning, but necessary to be able to move on.
A pre worked canvas is the best surface to work on and once you start applying new layers of paint, a whole new world of textures, shapes and colours appear.

A huge well done to everyone that attended this weekend and a massive thank you for listening to my theory and helping to tidy up.

We've had a last minute cancellation on our Expressive Landscape Painting Weekend.
Do let us know if you would like to attend.

Learn to create paintings that are based on your emotional connection to a space rather than trying to create a real life photographic depiction.

With a focus on feelings and energy and the subjective use of colour you will be able to take your paintings to an advanced level.

Theory work, discussions and plenty of practical exercises to challenge your creative minds, which will help you understand how to become more expressive with your own work.

Bring your acrylic paints, brushes and some lunch. I will supply all the other materials, coffee, tea and cakes, which can be enjoyed in the secret garden!

Making the most of the elderflower season.
This year we are making elderflower fizz, - also called elderflower champagne.
It’s super easy to make, all you need is freshly picked elderflower heads infused in water, sugar, lemon juice & zest and a small amount of apple cider vinegar. Leave it in a container for 24 hours, strain and bottle using sterilised bottles.
Leave for 2 weeks to ferment in a cool & dark place and you will have a delicious, sweet and slightly alcoholic summer drink with a hint of bubbles due to the fermentation process.
It will be just ready for the Summer Solstice celebrations to drink on a lovely summer evening.

A fabulous class today tutoring the West Quantoxhead art group.

A couple of simple exercises designed to help you see things a bit differently.

A wonderful group and so much fun, especially the timed flower painting exercise. πŸ™‚
