It’s probably about time I put a face to my little business and said hello... so, hi ☺️
I’m Carrie, the founder of The Coastal Birth Club here in Exmouth, where I teach antenatal, hypnobirthing and birth preparation classes/workshops with a slightly different approach.

I’m also a practising midwife, which means i currently work as a midwife caring for pregnant women and new families. Outside of work, I have a lovely husband, a dog and three children (two teenagers and a toddler!) who definitely keep me on my toes. So if things are a little quieter on here over the summer holidays... please bare with me, I'm still here 🐶👶🏼

I created The Coastal Birth Club after years of wanting to expand what I do as a midwife, but wanting to build a really solid foundation first. A bit of a geek at heart, I'm still completely fascinated by pregnancy and birth. Honestly... it's SO cool. Midwifery has changed a lot since I first qualified. Some good, a lot ... very different. But women's bodies haven't changed. We still grow babies and we still birth them as women have done for generations before us.

After supporting thousands of women and families, I realised our local area was missing birth preparation specifically designed by someone who understands our local Devon maternity services, hospitals and pathways. But also something a bit different. An offering that combined different areas of midwifery, different specialities and different approaches to create something truly unique.

And here we are :) Still in the early stages. Forever learning and slowly growing.

In a world where there is so much noise online, here you come in person, can slow down and take a breath. Have a moment. We take it back to basics, keep it simple, safe and evidence-based but with plenty of those "Oh... that makes so much more sense now!" moments.
My biggest hope is that you leave feeling calmer, more confident, empowered and completely in awe of how you and your baby are working together.

There are so many exciting things happening behind the scenes and I can't wait to share them with you 💙

Launching The Coastal Birth Club has been one of the most exciting things I’ve ever done and, if I’m honest, one of the most nerve wracking things too.

When you pour your heart into creating something you truly believe in and feel so passionate about, it’s impossible not to wonder how it will be received. So reading words like these from one of the very first families to come through my doors genuinely means the world ❤️

If you’ve been wondering whether antenatal classes are worth it, or have been on the fence about booking, I hope this gives you a little reassurance.
There are now just a few spaces remaining on my September course, so if you’d like to join us, I’d love to welcome you. 💙

As for this little business of mine … we’re only just getting started. There are some really exciting things to come which I cannot wait to share with you 🤍

It's been a couple of years in the making... 💙

This week, The Coastal Birth Club welcomed its very first birth preparation group.

After years of working as a midwife, studying hypnobirthing, training in biomechanics for birth and spending countless evenings (sorry husband) creating resources, writing workbooks, designing the classes, it was so special to finally sit down with a group of wonderful parents-to-be.

We spent the evening talking about how birth works, what physiological birth can look like, how our bodies and babies work together and then practical things you (and your birth partner) can do to support all of this. And we talked about feeling more in control and prepared for if your birth takes a slightly undesired turn.

There have been some difficult headlines about maternity services this week. And i'm not sure I want to add to the noise on my very small platform. But I will say this ... Midwives care. Deeply. I think it's in our blood - at least it is of any midwife I have ever met. Whether your birth unfolds exactly as planned or takes an unexpected turn, understanding your options, knowing what's happening with your body and feeling empowered to make informed decisions can make such a difference to your experience.

So, if you're pregnant, feeling a little overwhelmed, a little anxious, or simply want to prepare for birth in a calm, supportive environment, I'd genuinely love to welcome you to one of my classes.

If you're within driving distance of Exmouth, you really are so welcome here 💙

Happy Father’s Day from our family to yours.

Today, our hearts are full as we honour the beautiful, diverse and deeply moving journeys to fatherhood.Fatherhood is not just a destination. It is a quiet promise, a fierce devotion, and a love that begins long before a baby is held in your arms.

🤍 To the Fathers-to-Be: Whispering to the bump, setting up the nursery and waiting for that first cry—you are already a father.
🤍 To the Fathers in Waiting: Navigating the long, quiet spaces of hope, patience and resilience—we see you and we hold space for you today.
🤍 To the Newborn Dads: Navigating the beautiful, blurry haze of the early weeks—you are doing an incredible job.
🤍 To the Experienced Dads: The steady anchors, comfort-givers and story-readers—thank you for your endless guidance.
🤍 To the Bereaved Fathers: Carrying a love in your heart that words cannot measure—we honour your babies and we honour you.

No matter where you are on your path today—whether you are rocking a newborn, waiting for a miracle or preparing for birth—we see you, we celebrate you and we honour the incredible father you are.

Happy Fathers Day Mr.B 🤍

One of the biggest misconceptions I come across as a midwife is that hypnobirthing is only for people planning a home birth or wanting to avoid all pain relief options.

The reality is very different.

I've written about what hypnobirthing actually is, what it includes and why so many families find the techniques helpful, whether they're planning an induction, epidural, labour ward birth, caesarean birth, birth centre birth or home birth. Some people are doing it and they don't even realise.

You might be pleasantly surprised 🌊

In pregnancy and birth spaces, the word “expert” gets used a lot… but not all antenatal education is created equally.

As women and families, you absolutely deserve to understand who is guiding your birth preparation, what experience they hold and whether their teaching is grounded in professional training, real-life maternity care and evidence-based education 🤍

The Coastal Birth Club was created to offer something calm, modern and genuinely supportive — combining years of professional midwifery experience with specialist antenatal education, hypnobirthing and biomechanics-informed birth preparation.

But just as importantly, I never wanted these classes to feel cold, clinical or overwhelming.

No awkward classrooms.
No fear-based teaching.
No information overload.

Just warm, thoughtful and beautifully supportive preparation to help you feel informed, confident and cared for as you prepare to meet your baby 🌊

Because who you learn from really does matter 🤍

Why “The Coastal Birth Club”? 🌊

Because I never wanted this to feel like just another antenatal class.

I wanted to create something within my local community that feels softer. Slower. More connected.

A space where expectant families, women and new parents feel genuinely supported, informed and held as they prepare for birth and early parenthood — not rushed through a checklist of information.

The coast has always felt grounding to me. Calm, restorative and reassuring. A place to breathe deeply and exhale. And that’s exactly the feeling I wanted to create for families walking into my classes — a calm, relaxing and sensory experience where people instantly feel at ease.

And “club” because this was always meant to become so much more than just a course. There are so many beautiful things still to come.

It’s about finding your people.
Your support system.
Your village.

The people who sit beside you through pregnancy, message you at 3am in the newborn days and remind you that you were never meant to do this alone 🤍

The Coastal Birth Club was always created to feel like belonging.

☀️ Pregnancy in the heat can feel a lot.

Your body is already working incredibly hard when you're pregnant, so during periods of hot weather, slowing down and caring for yourself a little more gently really matters 🤍

A few gentle reminders for warmer days:
• Drink regularly throughout the day
• Rest more than usual
• Keep cool where possible
• Wear loose breathable clothing
• Seek shade during the hottest parts of the day
• Listen to your body and slow down when needed

Save for later, send to a pregnant friend & stay cool this weekend/coming week ☀️
