On Monday, I had the pleasure of giving a talk for The Uffington Museum alongside my mother, Jane Golding.

The talk was a companion to this year’s exhibition, ‘Myths, Monuments & Memory’ which focuses on the mythology and the continued significance of the prehistoric monuments of the Uffington White Horse landscape.

Together, we explored how the presence of the monuments has impacted the relationship between people and place across the centuries. For my part of the talk, I discussed the role of myth and oral tradition in the interaction between people and place in medieval society.

It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to discuss my research and it has highlighted to me that it’s a topic I’m not yet done researching!

My first museum exhibition ‘Myths, Monuments & Memory’ opened at The Uffington Museum over the Easter weekend. Drawing from my undergraduate dissertation, this exhibition explores the mythology embedded in the landscape of the Uffington White Horse and the enduring significance of the landscape and its monuments from prehistory to the present day.

It also draws on community memory of local legends and personal significance and will continue to collect these stories throughout the exhibition period.

I am thrilled with the positive responses to the exhibition so far and very grateful to the 120 people who visited over the opening weekend.

‘Myths, Monuments & Memory’ is open at Uffington Museum 2-5pm every weekend and bank holiday Monday until the end of October.

Went along to the opening of the Flight DV595 exhibition, which my mum helped put together, at The Uffington Museum today. The exhibition looks great and it was lovely to see so many people turn up for the opening. For anyone in the area, the exhibition is running until late October and Uffington Museum is a lovely little museum which I highly recommend visiting.

After walking past many times on previous visits, finally found the grave of my 2x great-grandparents, William Golding and Florence Golding (nee Anns). Their grave is in Chain Hill Cemetery, Wantage with a beautiful maple tree growing from it.

Stopped by the beautiful ornate church of St Swithun’s in Compton Beauchamp today. Compton Beauchamp was the home to my 13x great-grandfather, William Prestwood, in the 1560s and 1570s.

A while ago I decided to start an album of instant photos of the different churches I’ve visited where my ancestors where baptised, married and buried. Of course there’s quite a few I need to revisit as I didn’t take my camera!
