Struggling to tell trauma and anxiety apart? I hear you — and you’re not alone. Trauma often shows up as flashbacks, numbness, or feeling constantly on edge after a distressing event. Anxiety tends to be persistent worry, muscle tension, or avoidance that affects daily life. Which sounds more like what you’re feeling?
In my practice I blend EMDR (to gently process traumatic memories) with integrative approaches (like CBT and mindfulness) to help you feel safer in your body and more in control of your thoughts. For example: we might use EMDR to reduce the intensity of a painful memory, then work on coping strategies to stop it triggering panic in day-to-day situations.
I’m Rachel Sewrey, a BACP-accredited therapist and clinical supervisor based in Farnham (19 East Street, GU9). I work with adults and adolescents (16+) through trauma, anxiety, depression and bereavement — and I offer supervision for fellow counsellors.
