Sweet Child o Mine came on the radio while I was mid-conversation with my son about his National 5 revision. The irony wasn't lost on me. It was on Radio One all the time when I was his age, revising for my exams. It took me right back.

Exam season is here — and it's not just teenagers who feel it. We do as well. But let's try not to get our stuff mixed up with theirs. Remember...
Teenagers borrow our perspective. Calm reassurance goes further than you'd think.
Breaks are part of learning. Rest isn't wasted time; it helps concentration, memory and mood (chocolate helps too!)
There's no single right path. National 5s and Highers matter, but they don't define their future.
Watch for overwhelm. Changes in sleep, mood or appetite can mean they need connection more than another revision reminder.
Small moments count. A walk, a chat in the car, something on TV together — low-pressure connection matters.
Wishing every family facing this exam diet much luck and love. 🌿

I'm always really grateful when clients take the time to share their experiences of counselling.

I currently have new availability from the week beginning 20th April. If you’ve been thinking about starting counselling, this could be a good time to reach out. I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly at your own pace.

Feel free to message me privately if you'd like to know more.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day 💙

As a therapist, I often notice how many misconceptions about autism still exist... here are a few myths:
❌Autistic people don’t feel empathy
Many autistic individuals experience empathy deeply — it may simply be expressed in ways that aren’t always recognised.

❌If someone is autistic, it will be obvious
Autism isn’t always visible. Many people mask, adapt, and move through the world in ways that don’t fit common expectations.

❌Autistic people prefer to be alone
Connection is often deeply valued — it may just look different, with different rhythms, needs, or boundaries.

❌Good eye contact means comfort and engagement
For some, eye contact can feel overwhelming. Looking away may actually support listening, processing, and staying present.

❌If someone appears to be coping, there isn’t a struggle
Masking and adapting can take significant energy, and the impact isn’t always visible from the outside.

✅Autism isn’t a lack; it’s a different way of experiencing, processing, and relating to the world.
And when curiosity replaces assumptions, more space opens for understanding, acceptance, and compassion.
