⚠️ Hard ground warning ⚠️

The recent extended period of dry weather has really caused the ground to harden up. Are you aware of the risks of riding on hard ground?

🐎 Exercising your horse on hard ground can cause concussion-related lameness issues. When the horse’s hoof meets the ground, it’s subjected to a great deal of concussive force.

When the ground is softer, it absorbs some of the impact and provides cushioning to the foot - but the harder the ground, the less force is absorbed and the more stress on the horse.

It’s not only ridden horses who are at risk of concussive injuries from hard ground - any retired oldies who like to show you they’ve still got it by galloping round their paddock can also do themselves some damage! If this sounds like your horse, consider bringing them in a little earlier than usual.

Shod horses are also at greater risk from hard ground than unshod horses, as unshod horses actually absorb some of the concussive forces through their frogs.

Hard ground can cause injuries like:
πŸ”΅ Jarring injuries
βšͺ️ Tendon and ligament injuries
πŸ”΅ Bruised soles
βšͺ️ Splints
πŸ”΅ Concussive laminitis
βšͺ️ Pedal bone fractures

You can reduce the risk by:
πŸ”΅ Trying not to work your horse on hard ground too often
βšͺ️ Choosing softer surfaces for jumping where possible
πŸ”΅ Apply cold water after hard work
βšͺ️ Maintain your horse’s overall fitness/strength
πŸ”΅ Listen to your individual horse

🌴 November Holiday Notice 🌴

I know it’s a little early, but as many of you know, I do love my adventure holidays! This year Matt and I are heading off on another adventure, and I’ll be away from 31st October until 23rd November. 🌏✈️

I wanted to give everyone plenty of notice, as I know many of you book your horses’ routine treatments well in advance. If your horse is due a maintenance session before I go, I’d recommend getting booked in sooner rather than later, as my diary leading up to my holiday is already starting to fill.

I’ll be back treating from 24th November and look forward to seeing everyone then.

If you’d like to book an appointment before I head off, just send me a message. 🐴

Thank you all for your continued support - I can’t wait to share a few photos from our adventure when we’re back!

A MESSAGE OF CONCERN

It is becoming more and more concerning how many horses I am seeing with pain, inflammation, soreness and more serious complications following treatment with electrotherapy (mostly PEMF) by unqualified people.

I’m not posting this to discredit anyone, I am simply posting this because I care about the animals.

Qualified practitioners have spent years gaining their knowledge and qualifications, and often this includes specific time training to use electrotherapy correctly.

There are occasions when electrotherapy should never be applied and can cause further damage or complications to an already existing condition. Likewise using the incorrect frequencies can lead to increased muscle soreness and inflammation.

I urge anyone trying to offer their horse the very best care to do their homework about a person applying electrotherapy. The industry is not regulated enough and therefore machine manufactures will sell a machine to anyone and they can use it however they wish.
Just because your trainer has a machine doesn’t mean they have the knowledge to use it. I’m qualified as a physio, it does not mean I can do your farriers job!

It is a rising concern amongst qualified professionals throughout the country, so please be careful and keep your horses safe. 🐴❀️

Tendon & ligament rehab with INDIBA therapy 🐴

From check ligament injuries to suspensory branches and DDFT rehabilitation, these cases are managed alongside veterinary guidance and structured exercise plans.

Treatment blocks are tailored to the stage and type of injury, with many horses requiring a course of 6–10 sessions to support the different stages of healing and return to work ✨

Speak to your vet or get in touch to discuss whether INDIBA therapy may be appropriate for your horse’s recent soft tissue injury.

From surgery… to Badminton Grassroots πŸ’™

Two years ago Autumn’s future as an event horse was left very much in the balance following surgery after a blackthorn injury to her knee.

Fast forward to this week and here she is cantering round Badminton Grassroots.

These moments are why I love what I do. The long rehab days, the setbacks, the patience, the teamwork - all worth it for moments like this.

Absolutely over the moon for Vicky & Autumn. Such a special achievement and so deserved ✨

Kelsall 3⭐ debut for Lala and Tabby Moore, finishing on a double clear πŸ‘

A slightly tense dressage, but a seriously impressive jumping performance - bold, careful, and confident across both phases.

This is exactly what stepping up is about: building strength, experience, and trust at the level.

Looking forward to continuing to support this combination through the season ⚑️
