Losing interest

When I feel myself losing interest, pulling away, going quiet, I no longer worry, I know the path back.

For I know I've spent too much time on things that leave me fragmented. Things that require passwords, logins, metrics, likes, tracking, notifications, optimisation argh.

I guided a Forest Bathing session the other day and watched an ant for about 30 minutes carry a very little twig across the earth. Nothing dramatic, just one small creature doing a creature thing. And a wakefulness rose in me, a presence, a love for everything around me.

It occurred to me that I usually teach Dharana (concentration) as discipline. It takes discipline to train the mind to focus. But what if it were less about discipline and effort and more about affection? Focusing our attention on one thing, without distraction is Loving what's here in front of us and leaves us in a state of union, connection, oneness, affectionate towards the world.

If you ever feel like you're losing interest, turn towards a relationship, person, your body, your breath, a project, art, food, the natural world, something real that you can touch, taste, smell and hold and devote yourself to it for however long you can and see that this is how we come back to wholeness.

I've been turning to poetry lately - it's been offering a kind of Hope. A way of disappearing into words, into the rearranging of thoughts, making something messy feel beautiful again. It feels like disappearing is a survival skill.

I've never taught yoga as a way of disappearing, escaping, tuning out. But maybe disappearing has been a part of it, maybe the practice rearranges us the way poetry does, making something messy feel beautiful again.

New KWY Class - Fluid Flow 🌀

Fluid Flow is a vinyasa practice shaped by the natural intelligence of the body, circles, spirals, waves, and gentle repetitions that bring you home to your fluid nature.

It’s movement inspired by fascia and somatics: intuitive, continuous, less rigid than traditional Hatha or Flow, and not as still as Embodied Yin. Think circling through joints, rolling, pulsing, soft waves through the spine, and movements that feel like they come from the inside out.

This class invites you to move in ways that feel nourishing rather than performative, a practice that listens, adapts, and flows.

For all levels. Expect to move from standing to the floor, spend time on hands and knees, and explore fluid pathways through the whole body. Music is a HUGE part of this experience, limited numbers so we have room to move.

Trialing this class on:

Thursday September 3rd 6-7:30pm &
Saturday September 5th 8:30-10am

Come and see how this practice feels in your body 🌀

Why so much effort if the goal is letting go?

The mind can’t let go on demand...we know this.
The heart can’t let go on demand...we know this all too well.

But the body can learn, the body remembers experiences it has.

The path of yoga is mostly effort (know this all too well ✌🏼) showing up, restraint, posture, breath, withdrawal, concentration. But it's not the goal, the goal is surrender.

'If the will has never been strengthened, there’s nothing of substance to release'. I remr er hearing this years ago and it not landing, it now lands.

Yoga shapes us, breath, body, mind into someone capable of letting go.

What does effort look like?
Showing up.

Returning to the mat when the mind is busy, when the heart is full, when the body feels heavy, when you’re tired, overwhelmed, hungover, human.
This is the strengthening of the will.

What does letting go look like?

The breath softening, the shoulders dropping, the jaw unclenching, the body remembering it doesn’t need to grip, telling the truth about what you're feeling and allowing it to be there, being kind to yourself, using energy wisely, releasing what isn't yours to carry.

Effort builds capacity.
Letting go completes the path.
Peace waits on the other side.

Community Yoga ❤️ remembering we don't walk this path alone, we walk it together. As friends, community, as people willing to sit beside one another to share, to listen, to remind each other of our light.

In a world full of division, may we continue to come together and choose to leave people and spaces a little more lit up than we found them.

Thanks everyone for joining - it was an honour and privilege to be with you in Nethy and enjoy gorgeous brunch at The Dell of Abernethy.

Planning a September gathering - I'll send out a save the date shortly 🥰

I've been using the theme 'the in‑between' for years. And I don’t think there’s a better way to explain where we are, how we are, why we are.

At any given moment, I’m in between something, somethings. I'm always in a living hinge.

In between building a more stable business and yet imagining myself living in a forest with dogs and no wifi.

In between comforts and feeling as though I'm outgrowing some things.

In between exhausted and completely charged.

In between missing old yoga studios with carpets, strange smells, WISDOM, sweat, teachings, nothing was about comfort/aesthetics it was about transforming and now accepting what social media has done to studios, to yoga.

In between healing and healed.

In between thinking I should rebrand my socials into something more “how‑to” or “here’s my take on the wellness world,” and also knowing I don’t have the energy or the desire to contribute to more noise. What I offer is in class ✌🏼

In between wondering if I should be doing more to change the world and realising that helping people regulate might already be enough.

I'm more comfortable in this living pulse of life, in between what was, what is, what will be.

I've been in that space this week, sitting with the same questions I offered in last night’s eclipse yoga class 🌔

And maybe you want to ask yourself too.

Looking back at this past year...

What are you proud of so far?

I’m proud of building something from my heart. Of showing up to every class with intention and purpose. I'm proud of helping create a community, of bringing people together.

What are you trusting right now?

I'm trusting an inner guidance about a bigger space, not just a physical one, but a spaciousness in my life, my work, my energy. I’m trusting that I’ll know when it’s right.

What changes would let in a bit more light?

For me, self‑care. This is hard to admit because a part of me feels like an imposter teaching what I teach and not taking the time for self nourishment. But being self employed is tough, yes is my default answer. So I'm learning to pause a little more and ask myself even though it fits in my calendar, do I have the energy for it?

Thanks for the photo from night Liz.

Last minute Eclipse Yoga tonight friends 🌔

With the nice weather and Eclipse I decided to take tonight's class outside for an extended Yin Yang yoga class. Half Hatha Half Yin for a gorgeous balanced session.

This means the Embodied Yin class won't run but instead we'll go from 5:30-7:30 tonight for Yang Yin Yoga, if you need to leave at 7pm that's fine.

If you're booked in and this changes anything for you let me know.

If you're not booked in and want to join I've opened more spaces up in the class.

Our outside practice will be on the pitch behind the YM, come to the studio as usual.

I'll have props out there, bring your mat as usual. And perhaps wear some layers, not sure how much will be in the shade come 530pm.

Yin Yang Yoga for all levels 5:30-7:30pm outdoors at the YM. Ok if you need to leave at 7pm 🙏

Any questions let me know x
