What if you're not starting again?

People often say,
"I feel like I'm back at square one."

I'm not sure that's ever really true.
You don't lose everything you've learnt because you had a difficult week.

Growth isn't a straight line.
Sometimes it's remembering what you already know and choosing it again.

So if this week hasn't gone quite how you hoped...
Maybe you're not starting again.
Maybe you're simply continuing.

Why does being understood feel so emotional?

Have you ever noticed that sometimes the biggest emotional reaction isn't when someone gives you advice...

It's when someone simply says,
"That makes sense."

Being understood can be incredibly powerful.
Not because it solves the problem.
But because, for a moment, you don't feel alone with it.

When was the last time you felt truly understood?

Why do we keep waiting for the "right time"?

How many conversations have you delayed because you were waiting until the timing felt right?

The right time to ask for help.
The right time to set a boundary.
The right time to leave.
The right time to begin again.

Sometimes waiting protects us.
Sometimes it quietly keeps us stuck.

What have you been waiting to do?

Why do some people feel guilty when they're happy?

This is something I've been thinking about recently.

Some people can sit with sadness much more comfortably than they can sit with joy.

The moment life starts going well...
The guilt appears.
Almost as though happiness has to be earned.
Or as though enjoying life somehow means you're forgetting the people who are struggling.

I think that's such an interesting thing to reflect on.

Does happiness ever make you feel uncomfortable?

Why is it so difficult to trust yourself?

One thing I've noticed is that many people don't actually struggle to make decisions.

They struggle to trust the decisions they've already made.

They'll replay conversations.
Second-guess themselves.
Ask five different people for reassurance.

Not because they aren't capable, but because somewhere along the way they stopped believing their own judgement was enough.

Have you ever found yourself doing that?

Why do we explain ourselves so much?

Have you ever caught yourself over-explaining?

Explaining why you're late.
Why you said no.
Why you need some time to yourself.
Why you made a decision.

Sometimes we're not explaining because the other person asked.
We're explaining because we're hoping they'll approve of our choice.

I've often wondered how many of us learnt that our decisions only felt safe if somebody else agreed with them.

Do you recognise yourself in that?

Why do healthy relationships sometimes feel... boring?

Have you ever heard someone say,
"I know they're good for me... but it just doesn't feel the same."

It's something that comes up surprisingly often.

If you've spent years in relationships that felt unpredictable, emotionally intense or full of highs and lows, a healthy relationship can feel unfamiliar.

Not because it's lacking something, but because your nervous system has learnt to associate uncertainty with connection.

Healthy relationships often feel quieter.
More consistent.
More predictable.
And sometimes that can be mistaken for boredom.

I wonder whether you've ever experienced that shift?

Why do we sometimes miss people who weren't good for us?

One of the questions people sometimes ask themselves after a relationship ends is...
"If I know it wasn't good for me, why do I still miss them?"

I think that's a deeply human question.
Missing someone doesn't always mean they were right for you.
Sometimes you're grieving the hope of what the relationship could have been.
Sometimes you're missing the familiarity, even if it wasn't healthy.
Sometimes you're grieving the version of yourself that existed before everything became difficult.

Our hearts don't always move at the same pace as our understanding. That's why healing can feel so confusing. You can know a relationship wasn't right and still feel sadness when it's over. The two things can exist together.

Have you ever realised that what you missed wasn't necessarily the person, but what you hoped the relationship might become?

Why do some people struggle to ask for what they need?

Asking for what we need sounds simple. Yet for many people, it's one of the hardest things they'll ever do.

Sometimes that's because, growing up, our needs weren't welcomed.
Perhaps they were ignored.
Perhaps they were criticised.
Perhaps we learnt that being "easy-going" was the safest option.

So we become experts at working out what everyone else needs while quietly losing touch with our own. Then, when someone asks, "What do you need?" we genuinely don't know.

Learning to recognise and express our needs isn't selfish. It's an important part of building healthier relationships with ourselves and with other people.

Do you find it easy to ask for what you need, or does it still feel uncomfortable?

Some of the most important things people tell me aren't dramatic.
They're the quiet thoughts they've carried for years but never felt safe enough to say out loud.
Often they're accompanied by shame, guilt or the belief that they're the only person who feels that way.
They're not.
When those thoughts are finally spoken and met with understanding rather than judgement, something begins to shift. That's often where change starts.
