You’ve got a place in the London Marathon 2027... now what?
The countdown is on! With around 9 months to go, there’s so much you can do to arrive at the start line feeling stronger, fitter, and more confident than ever.
Here’s where to start:
Join a run club – you are more than likely to find some other marathon runners there and you can join up for long runs, tough sessions, it’s always easier (and more enjoyable!) with others to keep you motivated and accountable. I’m biased but our run club at Parklife and are the best around!!!
Strength train – This is non-negotiable. Running 26.2 miles places huge demands on your body. Strength training helps you stay resilient, run more efficiently, and reduce your risk of injury.
Work on your running form & economy – Better technique means less wasted energy, especially when fatigue starts to kick in during those later miles.
Start racing- give yourself time to practise race start lines, travelling to races, pre race fuel and nerves! Racing also allows you to push further than you have before, taking your training to the next level! I would recommend racing a variety of distances including 10km and a half marathon.
Include speed work – Track sessions and intervals aren’t just for getting faster. They improve your form, power, pacing and overall running efficiency’ making marathon pace feel more comfortable.
