I’ve always called myself a realist. Not a glass half empty or half full type of person, but a glass filled halfway. Neutral. And that can challenge some people as it can seem limited and negative.
My perception of a situation is based on what can be changed or influenced. In the glass scenario, it is possible to add more water to make the glass full. Or to pour it out and leave it empty. But what happens when there is no more water to be found? Well…. I’m stuck unable to make it full and I’m left feeling frustrated and disappointed.
And then I heard this quote. I can’t change the circumstances but I can change me. I can change my perspective and see the glass as half full. Or I can change what I’m doing and look somewhere else for the water. If I can change and if I can find the ability to be flexible in my perception, then reality will change.
Positivity doesn’t come from a permanent determination to overlook the bad and only see the good. It comes from the faith of knowing whatever happens, I can change.
