World Blood Donor Day 2026! 💉

Yesterday we celebrated World Blood Donor day, and we wanted to highlight the amazing contribution our Registered Manager Sandra makes, and to help others understand how they can make a difference!

We asked Sandra some important questions about what its like to give blood, how it helps and why she decided to start giving blood. Here's what she had to say:

Why did you decide to start giving blood?
One particular incident had a big impact on my decision to start giving blood. I was very young, travelling with my family, when we passed a serious accident where a cyclist had been hit. I remember seeing how critical the situation was and hearing paramedics urgently asking if anyone had blood type O negative.
That memory stayed with me, and later in life I found out that my blood type is O negative. Knowing that only a small percentage of people have this type, and that it can be given to anyone in emergencies, really made me realise how important donating blood is.

Is it an easy process to give blood?
Yes, it’s actually very easy. There’s an app where you can pre-book appointments and track your donations. The process itself is quick and not very painful at all. I even like to keep track of my time—my current “record” is 6 minutes and 6 seconds!

How does giving blood make you feel? Do you feel as though you are helping?
Every time I give blood, I feel like I’m doing something truly meaningful. It’s such a simple act, but it can save someone’s life in a critical moment. Knowing that my blood could help someone in an emergency situation or during treatment makes me feel proud and grateful that I can contribute.

Sandra see's giving blood as a 'Simple Process' but we think she's amazing for making a small contribution that could help hundreds of lives!

Employees of the Month for June💙

A huge congratulations to those who's hard work has been noticed this month. We truly appreciate all you do for the service users and Universal!

Tracey: "Tracey’s commitment as a care assistant truly stands out. She consistently goes above and beyond, showing dedication and genuine care in everything she does. Her hard work is evident in the warm bonds she has built with the customers, and the great relationships she maintains with them. Tracey regularly picks up additional care visits, always supporting the office team whenever needed. She’s a pleasure to work with – her bubbly personality shines through and is reflected in the positive connections she has with everyone she cares for. We’re so grateful to have Tracey as part of our team, and this recognition is well-deserved."

Katie: "We would like to nominate Katie Rivers. She has truly gone above and beyond recently. Not only did she make a heartfelt effort to help grant Richard his final wish before he passed—despite him sadly not making it to the arranged date, but she also showed exceptional care and compassion over the weekend. Carole’s husband suffered a suspected heart attack, and Katie stayed with them while they waited for the ambulance. As the crew were unable to remain with Carole, Katie continued to support her, checking in between calls and keeping her reassured while arrangements were made for her to go into Buckenham Lodge without her husband present.
Katie also assisted the ambulance crew in getting Carole safely into the vehicle and, at Carole’s request, followed them to the care home so she would feel comfortable going. She ensured Carole was settled, safe, and happy in her room before leaving.
If this level of dedication and compassion isn’t going above and beyond, I don’t know what is."

Maryanne: "I would like to sincerely commend Maryanne Hames for her exceptional support and dedication in the discharge of her duties. She has consistently demonstrated professionalism, responsiveness, and a strong commitment to helping field staff overcome challenges. Whenever issues arise on the field, she is always willing to assist and actively works toward finding practical solutions. Her prompt responses and willingness to go the extra mile have greatly contributed to smoother operations and improved efficiency, especially on weekends when she is on-called.
Her positive attitude, reliability, and problem-solving approach deserve recognition and appreciation. It is truly encouraging to work with someone who is so committed to ensuring that challenges are resolved effectively and promptly. I believe her efforts and dedication are a great asset to the team and the organisation as a whole."

Natasha: "I would like to take a moment to highlight this amazing woman – Natasha. I truly believe I wouldn’t be where I am today without her support. Natasha is such a genuine people person, always ready to help and go the extra mile. Even when we have no capacity, she challenges herself to find solutions and make things happen. She approaches every situation with determination and confidence, and it has been incredible to see how far she has come. Natasha now handles families with care and professionalism and works collaboratively with other professionals in a truly impressive way. Your dedication, positivity, and strength make a huge difference to the team. You are our sunshine Thank you for everything you do!"

Dawn: "I’d also like to recognise Dawn for her fantastic work. Dawn has truly cracked the system and care plans, no matter what is needed, you can mention it to her, and it’s done quickly and efficiently. Her speed, knowledge, and reliability make a huge difference to the team. She is always on top of things, ensuring everything runs smoothly and to a high standard. Your dedication and efficiency do not go unnoticed, and we really appreciate everything you do. Thank you for being such a valued member of the team!"

👏 Thank you to each and every one of you for making a difference every day.

This Carers Week, we’re taking a moment to recognise the incredible contribution of unpaid carers across the UK 💙

Carers Week shines a light on those who dedicate their time and energy to supporting loved ones, often behind the scenes and without recognition. Their compassion, resilience and commitment make a profound difference every single day.

At Universal Care, while this week focuses on unpaid carers, we also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing carers. Your dedication not only supports the individuals in your care, but also provides vital respite for unpaid carers, helping them rest, recharge and continue the important role they play.

Together, you create a network of care that truly changes lives. Thank you for everything you do 👏

Welcoming Cara to Universal Care Services!💙

Cara has stepped into the position of Operations Manger for our East Anglia Region (Norfolk, Ipswich and Cambridge). We asked Cara to tell us a little bit about herself so we can get to know her as she transitions into her new role!

"Hi, I’m Cara and I’ve worked within the health and social care sector for 20 years now. I started my career as a care worker, progressing through experience, training and qualifications, and developing into multiple different roles through the last 20 years. These included: senior care worker, field supervisor, care coordinator, deputy manager into registered manager. I worked in management for 12 years, before joining Universal Care Services.

I have always been passionate about providing a high standard of care and leading by example. That is why I have continued my studies and earnt myself a level 7 in strategic management and I am continuing to work towards a level 7 in coaching and mentoring.

Empowering other individuals to achieve their own goals and dreams through coaching and mentoring is what motivated me to carry on studying for my level 7."
