đź’ˇOne of my favourite lightbulb moments during a feeding visit is explaining the difference between the hard palate and soft palate.
Suddenly it makes sense why a shallow latch can feel uncomfortable.
When the ni**le is pressed against the hard palate, feeding can be painful and ni**les can become pinched or misshapen.
A deeper latch helps move the ni**le further back towards the soft palate, where feeding is often much more comfortable and effective.
Have you ever noticed your ni**le looking flattened or lipstick-shaped after a feed?
That can be a useful clue that baby may need a deeper latch.
